07:44 AM ET 04.15 | Donald Trump is self-aware enough to know some people doubt his sincerity when it comes to landing the Buffalo Bills. Skeptics have scoffed at his declared interest in buying the Bills. They assert it's a publicity stunt so the billionaire entrepreneur, entertainer and political flirt can remain in the headlines. Trump [on Monday] stressed he's committed to buying the Bills and keeping them in Western New York. Multiple sources confirmed he already has spoken to Bills President and CEO Russ Brandon twice. "I'm going to give it a heavy shot," Trump told me by phone [Monday] afternoon from his office in Manhattan. "I would love to do it, and if I can do it I'm keeping it in Buffalo." Trump also wanted to erase any doubt he would move the team to Los Angeles or Toronto.

A second bye week?

07:43 AM ET 04.15 | For the NFLPA, an 18-week slate remains near a nonstarter. [Commissioner Roger Goodell] has proposed adding one playoff team and one playoff game to each conference. [Eric Winston] has publicly said he is not against this. It would mean only two additional playoff games and minimal increased injury. I would propose another way to increase both revenue and safety without playing any extra games: Add a second bye week. ... Medically, a second bye week makes sense. Bye weeks give players an extra chance to recover. I have even scheduled in-season "tune up" arthroscopic surgery for the bye week in order for the player not to miss a game. A second bye week would be an additional chance for players to get healthy through extra rest.

07:43 AM ET 04.15 | This offseason, it could pay very well to play the part of schedule-maker for St. Louis. [The Rams] have announced their first ever "Guess Our Games" challenge, giving fans the chance to win $100,000 if they can correctly predict all 17 weeks of the team's 2014 regular season schedule. ... In order to have the opportunity to win the cash prize, the contestant must correctly select the opponent, location, and day of each game, including the bye week. If more than one fan gets the entire schedule correct (including the Rams opponent, the date, and location of each game as well as the bye week), there will be a trivia contest to determine the ultimate Guess Our Games challenge winner. There can be only one (1) winner and there is only one (1) entry per person.

Why the Raiders have lost 111 of 160 games

07:42 AM ET 04.15 | Looking for a reason behind nearly a decade of futility for the silver and black? When Nnamdi Asomugha -- who retired just after Christmas -- left the game, so went the Raiders' last good first-round draft pick (2003). While passing on the likes of Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger and Earl Thomas from 2004 to 2012, the Raiders accumulated an awful 49-111 record. The jury's still out on the first first-round pick of general manager Reggie McKenzie's tenure, D. J. Hayden. ... But perhaps when Oakland chooses 5th overall in the 2014 draft on May 8, McKenzie, who learned the tricks of the trade while working with John Schneider, Ted Thompson and Ron Wolf in Green Bay, can reverse the Raiders' history of poor first-round selections.

07:37 AM ET 04.14 | With the arrest of linebacker Aldon Smith, the 49ers now have a more difficult decision to make. It's extremely unlikely they'd cut him, because he'd be gobbled up on waivers -- possibly by another team in the division. Because Smith arrived via the first round of the 2011 draft, the 49ers have to decide by May 3 whether to exercise the fifth-year option on Smith's rookie contract. Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the 49ers haven't decided to exercise the option. ... The analysis will entail further homework regarding Smith's off-field issues, especially since the obvious question that arises from Smith's decision (allegedly) to joke about a bomb with a TSA agent is whether Smith was under the influence of alcohol, or something else.
