Joe Namath think Jets wasted draft pick on Geno Smith

03:08 PM ET 05.22 | It is never a dull moment with former Jets quarterback great Joe Namath. On Tuesday, at United Way's 20th Gridiron Gala at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, Namath, once again, had an opinion regarding a Jets move: "No, I don't think they needed a quarterback. They needed the other positions filled. Possibly offensive line. They got some defensive line. The safeties are still questionable. The outside linebackers are still questionable," referring to the Jets' second-round draft pick Geno Smith. Namath, who is not shy in airing his opinions on the Jets and on their quarterback situation, seems to disagree with the Jets' draft of the West Virginia quarterback, adding that he's going to "pull" for embattled quarterback Mark Sanchez, who has struggled the past two seasons, but Namath thinks it's because of the "distractions" surrounding the quarterback.

09:22 AM ET 05.22 | Former Stony Brook Seawolves running back Miguel Maysonet signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an unrestricted free agent following the conclusion of the 2013 NFL Draft, however, the team has decided to cut him loose after the first round of OTAs. It was a short life in Philadelphia for Maysonet, but he is getting a second chance after the Cleveland Browns claimed him on the waiver wire. Maysonet is an intriguing player. Unfortunately for him, the Browns have one of the deepest backfields in the league and it could be hard for him to find a spot on the final roster.

06:02 PM ET 05.22 | There is one veteran player not in attendance during OTAs this week ??? safety Louis Delmas. There is another veteran player who wasn't expected to participate who is ??? receiver Nate Burleson. "I wasn't supposed to; I was told not to (practice)," said Burleson, who wasn't supposed to be back from leg surgery until July. "But it's like I always told you guys, if I can walk I can run, and if I can run I can play." Burleson, 31, took part in all the drills, including 7-on-7s. "It's as healed up as it's going to get," he said. "The good thing about being out there is I am playing at a high level and I am not 100 percent. When it gets stronger and I get endurance back in it, I will be back to playing with extreme confidence."

05:57 PM ET 05.22 | The writing on the wall is becoming more legible when it comes to Brandon Spikes. Despite the fact he is the best purveyor of on-field nasty the Patriots have, Spikes??? distaste for the Patriots expectations of how to get ready for a season will probably mean a parting of the ways after 2013 when Spikes becomes a free agent. Spikes wasn???t present for the start of OTAs this week and hasn???t been a part of the offseason conditioning program. That???s his right. But with the rest of the team???s principal players in attendance, Spikes??? absence is a ???****??? to the program. And once it gets there, one would imagine it???s hard to turn that battleship around.

Hakeem Nicks a surprise no-show at Giants OTAs

05:52 PM ET 05.22 | Nobody expected Victor Cruz to show up for the Giants' OTA workout on Wednesday. That Hakeem Nicks also didn't show up, however, was a much larger surprise. Nicks, who was in Manhattan just a night earlier, was nowhere to be found at the Giants facility on Wednesday, a concerning absence. Cruz is embroiled in an ongoing contract dispute with the Giants, so few expected him to work with the team. But Giants coach Tom Coughlin had been expecting Nicks to attend. "I don't know," Coughlin said after the session. "He should be here." Coughlin added that Nicks would have likely worked with some "limitations" to protect the knee he injured last season. None of that happened, however, because Nicks was not in attendance.
