Report: FIFA 'seriously' considering taking 2022 World Cup from Qatar

10:57 AM ET 02.16 | There may be some respite after all. According to German paper Die Welt, a person only identified as a "senior FIFA employee" said that despite FIFA's public claims that they are adamant about making Qatar 2022 work, moving the event to another country is a --serious option." This comes on the heels of a report in The Guardian that over 400 Nepalese immigrant workers have died since construction began on World Cup stadiums in the sweltering hot country. With the human rights situation in shambles, the report suggests that a decision will be made by the final 2014 meeting of the FIFA Executive Committee. The senior employee said "there would be enough time for the tournament to be reassigned." The Guardian report on the Nepalese death toll comes from the Prevasi Nepali Co-ordination Committee, an organization the Guardian labels as a respected human rights group. It also warns that the death toll could reach a staggering 4,000 by the time the 2022 World Cup comes around. This number was posed back in September, but apparently it did little to scare FIFA off at the time.

11:33 AM ET 02.15 | Toronto FC continue to assemble an extremely impressive squad for the upcoming season, as the Canadian club unveiled Brazilian national team goalkeeper Juilo Cesar as a TFC player on Friday. Toronto have signed 34-year-old Brazilian star Cesar on loan to help him prepare for the World Cup in his homeland this summer and TFC's GM Tim Bezbatchenko confirmed the deal will last throughout the 2014 MLS season. The deal means that Cesar will be playing for Toronto before and after the World Cup, as previously many thought it was just a short-term deal that would see him up in Ontario until May.

10:22 AM ET 02.08 | Tim Leiweke likes Philadelphia Union CEO Nick Sakiewicz, his former employee. He respects him -- and expects his rebuilt Union to compete this season. It's why he doesn't take his recent remarks personally. Unfortunately for Philly, Leiweke's confident Michael Bradley will. In an interview with The Philly Soccer Page this week, Sakiewiz took a swipe at his former boss for dropping $90 million on a pair of players this off-season. Last month, the Reds signed Jermain Defoe and Bradley to multi-year, multi-million dollar deals the likes of which the league has never seen. "I get frustrated when I see people say how smart Toronto is spending $90 million," Sakiewicz told Philly Soccer Page.

11:00 AM ET 02.02 | Schalke's director of sport Horst Heldt has admitted he turned down a "decent" bid for Julian Draxler last week. The 20-year-old Germany international, who has a 37million release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga club, was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal during the transfer window. However no deal was agreed between the clubs and Heldt has hinted the offer he received did not come from the Gunners after revealing it "came from a club to the north of us".
