04:07 PM ET 10.09 | Novak Djokovic, who recently fell from No. 1 in the standings to No. 2, ran into a little bit of a problem during his second-round match against Marcel Granollers of Spain in the Shanghai Masters. Djokovic had already won the first set 6-2, and was playing in the first game of the second set. He hit a running backhand, then spectators saw him jump in the air, obviously in some kind of pain. He landed on his right foot awkwardly during the run toward the backhand.

09:31 PM ET 10.04 | Rafael Nadal managed to get closer to reaching the number one spot in the world again with a win in the quarterfinals of the China Open. He was able to beat Fabio Fognini of Italy in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. In order to actually have a chance of claiming the top spot, he will have to reach the finals whee it seems that he could be meeting Novak Djokovic, the current number 1 seed. Djokovic beat American Sam Querry in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, in just under an hour of play, which is incredible. But then again, that is to be expected of someone like Djokovic.

01:52 PM ET 08.29 | James Blake suffered a heart-breaking loss to Ivo Karlovic on Wednesday at the U.S. Open to bring an end to his 14-year career. Earlier this week, Blake announced that the U.S. Open would be the final singles tournament of his career, but he could have never imagined that it would end like it did. Blake was up two sets in the first-round match up with Karlovic, but he ended up dropping the fifth-set tiebreaker in the entertaining match that lasted nearly three-and-a-half hours to bring an end to his career -- 6-7 (2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2). While Blake will never get to take the court as an individual again, he still gets to finish out the U.S. Open in the doubles bracket with Jack Sock.

01:36 PM ET 08.22 | It's been a wild week for Maria Sharapova, who fired her coach after one game on Friday, was going to legally change her last name to "Sugarpova" during the U.S. Open, had second thoughts on it, and now isn't going to even play in tennis' last major event of the year. Sharapova withdrew from the 2013 U.S. Open on Wednesday night with a shoulder injury. She's been having injury problems since her second-round exit at Wimbledon, and has played in just one match since then.
