Sullivan may test free-agent market

When Predators General Manager David Poile sat down with Steve Sullivan for a season-ending meeting, he said he learned a couple of things. One: Sullivan is interested in staying in Nashville. Two: Sullivan is considering using the free-agent market beginning July 1 to establish his value. Poile is trying to convince the left wing that use of the latter is probably not the best way to remain with the Predators.

Would like to see little Stevie Sullivan back in TO

He needed a meeting to learn these things. Did he fail GM 101?

run away from the preds while you can

its not intrsting cause the sun or post didnt lie to make the story better

Steve Sullivan leaving the Nashville Predators is not a very big sports story, even by NHL standards. It is plausible, and very likely to occur, just not very interesting to read.

...yes and according to rags like the TO Sun and the countless centre-of-the-universe biased hockey media, him and every other free agent will surely be begging to go there. Of course history says different.

Bite me dingleberry. It's just that there's no way Tavares (correct spelling, stupid), will fall to number 11.

Teams will be lining up to sign a 35 year old injury prone 10 goal scorer. He made 3.2 million this year. He aint getting that much.

Nice guy, nice little player, but you're right. It's not like we'll miss the guy here, he missed a few games over the past couple of seasons, eh?

I see the usual "Let's slam Nashville" crap still litters these forums. What a shame.

sounds like poile is saying if stevie goes to the free market he can go right out the door.....

jigger.... as long as the preds have money issues they are going to get slammed on here.... the coyotes get slammed too... the preds might have some good fans and people attending games but until nashvilles corporate sector gets on board and buys some box seats and advertising the preds will have money issues and get slammed on boards like these.... ask the people of winnipeg how it will work out with no corporate sponsors

April 23, 2009  12:17 PM ET

Sensfan: Money issues is no reason to slam a team, IMHO. Don't get me wrong, both teams are finding it tough to get by. The good news for the Preds is that the fan base is increasing, as well as sales of season tickets. I just bought a full season myself as well as a great group of people. Slowly, we are getting there but these things take time.

...I digress. I think a just reason to dislike a team shouldn't be focused on why one city has a team and while another doesn't. This kind of thinking makes a lot of the Northern hockey fans (not saying they're the only one but the focus) look like children who don't have the toy the other kid has.

As far as Sully is concerned... good player but to demand such a high pay? I think he'll find it. Some teams are desperate enough to grab ANYONE for any price. It would be in his best interest to stay here, if you ask me. Yet... is he wants go... good luck.

April 23, 2009  05:11 PM ET

jigger: im not slamming the preds or anything like that or saying its ok to slam a team because of financial issues.... just giving you the heads up that it happens and you will be defending it for a long time...lol... hope for your sake the corporate sector buys in or you and the other fans will be watching your team go elsewhere because it seems that clubs can longer compete with only using ticket sales as its sole source of income.... hopefully with the cap and revenue sharing it will give the city of nashville some extra time to embrace its beloved preds.

Steve Sullivan is NOT worth more than he is making now ($3.2mil). Only sign him if he will take $2mil.
