Is Jermaine O'Neal done?

06:43 AM ET 04.22 | One veteran NBA scout's view after watching Jermaine O'Neal (five points, two rebounds) in Game 1 against Atlanta: ``He didn't even look into it, wasn't ready for the ball on passes. You've got to show some emotion in the playoffs. He looks shot.'' The Heat is 13-15 with O'Neal in the lineup, including 1-9 on the road against playoff teams. O'Neal, hoping for more post-up chances on offense, blames his lack of rebounding on the loss of ''mobility and explosion'' from an early season knee injury.

He's probably been 'done' for a while now, he'll never return to his form of a few years ago with the Pacers when he was one of the best big men in the league.

Exactly, the Pacers couldn't get rid of him fast enough after he showed a rapid decline and finally got the Raptors to take the bait. He didn't show anything in Toronto so their should be bo suprise he is a buster now.

These are the options Pat Riley had.
1. Keep Marion - still make the playoffs and add Boozer next season.
3. Trade for injury prone Jermaine O'Neal; loose the ability to get Boozer...
and hope things work out in the playoffs.
3. Trade Marion to Sacramento - get Miller and Salmons and go deep in the playoffs.
What a smart choice? I know he gambled with Shaq and won big but how long must the nonsense continue. I wouldn't be surprised to see if Wade bolts...

He is not done. He is not on a right system right now. He can still be useful for other teams that needs some low post offense and defense. The Heat system is now just geared on what DWade does on court and they are relying on DWade too much. At least DWade is not giving up.

He makes fat Shaq look good. That tub of lard should have also retired years ago.

This is not news, the real news is how a below average palyer gets paid so much money. This is a time when NBA contracts should be like football. Of course O'Neil is set for life so i'm sure he's not worried too much about it.

excuse me shaq brought you guys a title in miami? are you serious.. if your acting like that toward shaq.. might as well give up the title cause without shaq miami doesn't have one in 2006 and my 2006 championship tee means nothing?

I,m no Miami fan but after the title Shaq shut it down that is why he was sent to the desert to be the big cactus.

I agree he'll never be the same-
bigs woth knee injuries are never the same...
but he can be useful.
The center crop in the NBA overall frankly stinks-
if he could give you close to 12 & 8- that is acceptable when you
have the NBA's leading scorer on the team.
- the big problem is he's always on the bench

I bet he starts playing hard when he's up for a new contract. That's usually when he's in All-Star form.

You are right, he is not in the right system, and the right system for him is the D-league.
