New Huskies coaches rave about Locker

In the world of Washington football, there's plenty to worry about -- whether the Apple Cup is moving to Qwest Field and whether they'll ever renovate Husky Stadium. But one of the bigger causes for concern the last few years -- whether Jake Locker would ever become an accurate enough passer to fulfill his vast potential -- is less reason for worry with each passing day, in the eyes of the Huskies' new coaches. "I'm extremely, extremely excited about it," UW coach Steve Sarkisian said Wednesday, of how far Locker has come in the past week. Sarkisian began the spring saying his goal for Locker in 2009 was to complete 60 percent of his passes. And during the past five practices, Sarkisian said, Locker has done just that, making better decisions of when to run and where and when to throw. Locker was 10-for-16 passing in a full scrimmage Saturday and also had one dropped. That's a 62.5 completion percentage.

Yeah, that inconsistent, punky offensive scheme he ran at SC... glad he's gone

They better rave, they have nothing behind him.

He's the best player they have. No need ticking him off with negative comments. Rave about him all day, Sarkisian.

well what else is he going to rave about?

Well, he's from the Carroll school, so how about shirtless recruiting?

Sorry VFH, had to see if you were awake.

"UT Wildboys!!!" It will be in my head forever now.

I am not sold on Sark as a head coach. There were some issues with his gameplanning when he was here at SC. But washington can be a contender if things fall right. He put together a pretty good staff. Locker is a terrific athlete. Will see how it goes.

What's he got beside him? The "Sweet Fellas"?

Not that there is anything wrong with that life style.

Some bloggers just aren't happy unless they're degrading another team, jeez. I don't follow UW football much, or even the PacTen for that matter, but I do miss the days when Washington had stong teams. I'd love to see their entire conference grow stronger to compete with USC and make their tv games more appealing. Nothing personal, but hearing nonstop ramble about Carroll and USC gets as old as hearing about Urban and Univ. Florida.

Hey, I hope Sark has success at WA. And Locker is talented. Hopefully he'll have an o-line to protect him and let him do his thing.

April 23, 2009  12:04 PM ET

Locker has always had game. Now can they get some talent around him.

Reminds me of why I still try to get to the gym 4 - 5 times a week. I try to pick a time when the 20 - 30 year olds aren't around to laugh at me.

If he's planning on using Kiffin's shirtless recruiting technique he needs to conider one of those Playtex Cross-Your-Heart specials.

I've sometimes entertained fantacies of being reincarnated as a 34-C sports bra. Y'all are making me seriously re-think the advisability of this. I had in mind being worn by Marissa Miller, not Sark.

It's nice to have something positive to talk about at UW. Locker needs to be a more accurate thrower and continue to be a strong leader. He cannot however, carry the team.
