Arizona State coach Herb Sendek is in San Antonio, meeting John Paul Stevens High standout Brandon Thompson, along with the guard's grandfather and coach. Thompson has drawn attention the last few weeks, but he has been a secret most of the year. And as ASU, Georgetown and Texas Tech close in, his coach, John Hirst, thinks he knows why. "To be perfectly honest with you, the way the NCAA has structured viewing times I think it's encouraged coaches to be lazy," Hirst said by telephone Wednesday morning. "They don't have to work like they did in years past. They can go to Vegas or hit four or five summer events and see kids there. Well, Brandon is not a kid that has shown well in the summer.

Well James Harden just had a good career at ASU under Sendek. Maybe he can sell this kid on the same.
