10:33 AM ET 04.23 | After negotiating with Valencia and Villarreal, MLS now appears to be eyeing Everton for the All-Star Game in Salt Lake City this summer. Featuring New Jersey's own Tim Howard in goal, Everton is currently sixth in the English Premiership and headed for the FA Cup final after upsetting Manchester United this week.

Id love to wear my Liverpool shirt to see Everton play, ecspecially if they had the fan support come like west ham did

Next week it will be someone else.

seems to me that MLS likes to keep the all-star opponent as much of a secret as everything else in this league

LAME! I don't know about the other MLS/soccer fans around the country, but as an RSL fan this is the last team I want to see matched up with the All Stars. They came to Salt Lake City 2 years ago. I hate to say it, but if Everton is the biggest club they can get for the All Star game, that is pretty sad for MLS.

I don't buy this happening quite yet. Be a good story with Tim Howard coming back. I don't think Everton as some Mickey Mouse club by any means. They've a good history and Moyes has made them a respectable side. They could do a lot worse than the Toffees, but they could do better as well.

I want MLS to succeed, really I do but this is SAD.

No more sad than last year's middle-of-the-table English opponent, West Ham

they should go after lyon, or marseille, that could be cool. I'd like to see benzema play. also, can't they try and get ac milan? or club america? or inter? or chelsea (again)? they will all be here for their little tournament thing, so that would make sense to me. and, apparently ACM and America are playing in atlanta in the Dome. it will be weird to see soccer played in that thing, its a terrible venue, even for football.

They absolutely need a Champion's League calibre team to face, and I feel the league deserves one.

On top of that, it would be in that team's interest to come over and get some recognition, sell some jerseys, and make some new fans for the long run. I follow Inter as my Italian team mainly because they came and played the Fire years ago (I also love watching Ibrahimovic play).

Especially when like a month in to the season the Hammers lost their sponsor and had a big conspicuous blank spot on the front of their shirt like someone had just sewn some fabric over it....

MLS looks like a bunch of **** when they negotiate with like 5 teams before getting one. It reeks of desparation, like the dude who gets turned down by every girl in the bar until closing time when he finally scores the girl an hour earlier had passed out in a pool of her own vomit.

April 23, 2009  03:33 PM ET

They should put the game out to bid. The lowest qualifed bidder wins.

Wanted: Champions League team willing to buy 50% of the seats for the MLS All-star venue and share 50% of the television rights. All travel and other expenses to be born by team not MLS.

50-50 partnership
or pick a number 80/20, 70/30.

Hey, that's how I met my wife! Absolutely nothing wrong with that. And it wasn't desparation, it was a plan, I tell you, a well-calculated plan.

I remember thinking that Rio Tinto was an interesting choice of name for the stadium. The actual river is a toxic cesspool. Maybe Portland can continue the trend and name their new stadium the Chernobyl Center

Or maybe it's named after the mining company that bought the rights to the place, and not after a river?

LOL, that makes more sense. I automatically associated the river since it's in Spain along with the "Real" aspect of the team's name.
