Celtics guard Tony Allen, back in his hometown for Game 3 against the Bulls last night, has received death threats, according to several NBA sources, and security was added to protect the visitors' bench in the Celtics' 107-86 win. Sources said Allen has been receiving the threats in Chicago for some time. The former Crane High star also received threats prior to a March 17 game at Chicago, sources said, but he didn't make the trip because of a thumb injury.

I don't think the death threats were related to the Bulls/Celtics match-up.... They are probably from someone in his past--some "unresolved issues", if you will. Either way, that sort of stuff shouldn't be happening regardless of if he was a basketball player, a stock broker, a janitor, unemployed or whatever....

On a side note, it sucks that the Bulls got spanked last night.... Oh well, they've already won as many games as I thought they would this series.

unrelated... do you guys remember during a deal ball tony tried to show boat and tried to dunk and then came down wrong and blew out his knee! lol

as for death threats... he didn't go to chi because he was scared... NOT BECAUSE OF A THUMB INJURY! lets be serious! your team is in the playoffs and you stay home and not support your team because your thumb hurts! lol

for the sake of his street cred lol... lets all beleive he stayed home nursing is thumb

Beef Keef - he was at the game last night. He didn't go to a March 17th game (and many other games in that time period) because of the thumb injury. Try reading the article next time. The first line says "back in his hometown for Game 3 against the Bulls last night..."

Idiot.

Never amazes me how far people will take something that is nothing more than ENTERTAINMENT. I don't like losing either, but it won't ruin my day or make me wish someone was dead.

Get a life or a hobby...

But, he was there last night, played in the playoff game (9 mins...) and will be tomorrow, playing in the playoff game. He missed the March 17 game. Your "he was scared" theory sucks.

You beat me to it by four minutes. Great minds think alike!

Wow? That's some sad stuff.

April 24, 2009  09:27 AM ET

Yeah... must be a hater from his past, or a jealous ex-girlfriend eying his money!! Who knows? BUT........... How about that win last night!!!! I told y'all there was gonna be a blowout back on that KG thread... I THINK I'M PSYCHIC!!!! hahahahahahahahaha ;)

April 24, 2009  09:30 AM ET

I lived in Chicago for a year. ****.

April 24, 2009  09:36 AM ET

What would be real funny is the Lakers getting knocked out early; Everyone expects the Celts to lose (or should I say WANT them to lose) because there's no Garnett.... Like I said before, Big Baby is doing a superb job out there on the floor; And it's only a matter of time until Marbury gets back into game shape and starts to produce even more!!! THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!!

April 24, 2009  09:43 AM ET

Nothing like coming home huh???

April 24, 2009  09:46 AM ET

They could have at least sent the death threats to the ALL-STARS on the team, and not some bench player...

April 24, 2009  09:51 AM ET

my mad... get your laughs on... i skimmed the article.. but either way he'll always be remembered for injuring himself trying to dunk and blowing out his knee

how about you relax there noob... how about you find a state that has a pro team and then call yourself a fan.

April 24, 2009  09:57 AM ET

It probably has to do with his ties to the street more than anything else. Think about it, it's not like he's the deciding factor in whether the team wins or loses the series. Maybe if he hadn't been such a "Tough Tony" growing up he wouldn't be receiving these threats. LOL.

April 24, 2009  10:24 AM ET

I really don't know much about Allen, but smart money says this isn't about basketball. Sounds more like a beef in the hood, and the fact that he's a pro athlete now just makes it worse for the haters.

You're right, I am unworthy. I will dedicate all my time posting hundreds of messages on an internet chat board so I can be cool like you, dude.
