Mullin in line for Knicks GM?

Despite an upsurge of chatter claiming Donnie Walsh only has eyes for Chris Mullin -- a couple NBA observers assert the apparently departing Warriors VP has been promised the Knicks' GM job -- this is untrue, according to the team president. Though Mullin (if free) unquestionably will be among the top three candidates along with Billy King and Billy Knight -- Walsh has Indiana Pacers affections and connections with all three -- you had better believe there has been no conversation with Chris; tampering could cost the Knicks a No. 1 pick. So, naturally, there has been no commitment. Yet the rumors continue to circulate to the contrary.

Mullin managed to get okay contracts for Biedrens and Monta Ellis, and they found a good pick in Randolph...But really once they lost to Utah in the semi-conference finals/After upsetting Dallas, well their noise hasn't been so Loud.

"tampering could cost the Knicks a No. 1 pick." I thought that was Isiah's job. Well if they did lose a No.1 pick Knick fan should be used to it already.

No way... we don't need a GM... let alone the same GM that's loosing a power struggle to Nelly.. how bout Jerry West, Magic, Ewing..

knicks suck

April 24, 2009  08:53 AM ET

Chris Mullin is perfect for the Knicks job. He has a competent if a bit underwhelming front office and a good coach. He did after all put together a pretty good Warriors team before before a couple o' them dudes started trippin'.

In New York, D'Antonio and Walsh will get all the press while Mullin floats under the radar and quietly understands the market; acquiring and trading for talented players and in 2011 the Knicks can try and knock off Lebron and the Cavs...or not

We love Mullin in NY-
but lets get real- he is simply not a good GM

GS is a MESS- which means Mullin doesn't run a tight ship
no thanks chris- lets just remember you from your Redman days

Golden State is a mess but that isn't all Mullen's fault. Supposedly the owner of the Warriors has encouraged a power struggle between Mullin, and Nellie.

Anyway, this makes sense. Walsh reportedly has some health issues, and he and Mullin are close. Also Mullin is still loved here for being a native son of the City.

I know some of you are dumping on him, but this is going to happen. It's just a matter of time.

NBA LIVE 95: Mullin is a beast

April 24, 2009  09:18 AM ET

I like Mullin, but I don't like this move for him. Being a native son won't make the job any easier. Talk about a power struggle--if he had issues with Rowell and Nellie, wait 'til he has to deal with Dumb and Dumberer on a daily basis.

I've heard that too...
but to me that's a big problem.
why is there a struggle?
if he was so 'unpleased' with the situation he should have quit
- IMO- if he's too weak to take charge- what does that say about him>?

Is it just me or does Chris Mullin look like that dude in Chicago that everyone hates? Forgot his name..

The NBA management scene is such a silly club get in you're in for life. Doesn't matter how you've had success in the past or anything.

I'd like to see GM's that don't make absurd trades and signings and at least try to build proper squad - not one with 15 shooters and two big men.

There should be a rule ex players should have to take a test before becoming a GM, Players/GM havent been successful unless your Joe Dumars, Larry Bird or Jerry West and only two of them have won a championship. Its rare seeing a player becoming a really good GM the nba now, just because you played the game and won championships doesnt make you capable of building a team, Lets see Baylor, Mchale, Mullin, Zeke Thomas, Michael Jordan, Steve Kerr, John Paxson are prime example of what not to do as a GM. Danny Ainge I believe got lucky for getting Ray Allen and KG but once they retire the Celtics wont win another Championship for another 20yrs, before Ainge got those two players that team looked like a huge mess sitting at the bottom of the league. I am not sure why Knicks would hire a GM that hasnt proven himself with a team and it makes me wonder about Donnie Walsh credibility.
