Was Gainey's rant hypocritical?

Silly and petty that Bob Gainey is blaming Tampa general manager Brian Lawton for disrupting his season. Why not blame the players who were hanging with mobsters, impregnating youngsters, getting their pictures splashed all over the Internet in various states and then not performing. And why not blame himself? By the way, a year ago at the trade deadline, when the Leafs were trying to trade Mats Sundin to Montreal, somebody in the Canadiens organization leaked the names of Christopher Higgins and Mikhail Grabovski as players that were intended to go to Toronto in the deal. Don't remember Gainey calling that disgraceful or disruptive then, with the Canadiens in first place.

Sounds like sour grapes that he didn't get his Vinny prize that he coveted to me. The Habs are in a real mess and likely to get worse before they get better. From the ownership questions, GM uncertainty, coaching needs, UFA signings to the team captains future not to mention Bob's inactivity at the trade deadline and putting his team aspirations on the often inconsistant shoulders of the moody Kovalev. Add in that a lot of other teams are improving quickly and it all spells playoff drought next season for Les Canadiens...However, that said, still "the heart does go on...."

Gainey's rant wasn't hypocritical. Who come up with these headlines? It was silly... not... I just really can't stand the Toronto Sun, this rag is pathetic.

This article is silly, I agree. It's like a Pittsburgh article about the Flyboys or vice versa.

It's clear that Bob Gainey is doing whatever he can to keep his job. I have respect for Gainey, but this is beneath him. Blaming everyone else for what happened this year. He isn't totally to blame, but a coach understands ultimately you are responsible for the season.

Did you read the whole thing?

It said that Montreal leaked the names of players proposed to be traded for Sundin last season. Gainey had no complaint about that leak but then complains about Tampa leaking names? That is hypocrisy, plain and simple.

And yes, the whole thing is a ridiculous joke and Gainey should be looking internally for the problem, not pointing fingers at everyone else.

It's just a shell game now. What does it matter anyway?

Gainey has decided to celebrate their 100th anniversary by having a meet the Habs day in Montreal this weekend...The course opens at 7am and tee off times are to be announced...Contact Brian Lawton for more information.

bob the builder had a great five year plan; draft price and do alot of praying!

either way, the way I see it is that vnny is still available this summer and montreal s the only team that will deliver what tampa is going to ask, but this is gainey`s way of letting them know that they screwed up (because lke gainey and the habs or not, on this occasion its tampa that royally screwed themselves) and the prce will have to come down if they intend to do business. Gainey`s only shot at keeping his job is to have a very good free agent period....and everyone in mtl wants vinny as the prze.

whoa whoa whoa. which guy impregnated a youngster?

After all the jokes about the Leafs this season... and they are justified, the Habs are in a BIGGER mess from here on.

1)They have a boatload of free agents, many who will not even think about re-signing on that dysfunctional roster.
2) They have an ownership problem.. this has reared it's head more than once in Montreal.
3) Their GM and coach probably will be replaced for next season.
4) Carey Price is a mirage... looks smooth and under control, but folds under pressure. Looks can be deceiving, can't they?
5) They have no leadership at all. Even the guy who I respected the most, Komisarek, folded against Boston, his play dipped dramatically and he ended the series going Ted Bundy on Lucic, totally classless.

So, enjoy your 2-year run at being a "rebuilt" team , Les Habitants, it looks like more shenenigans are on the way. Maybe you can hire Brian Burke for a complete rebirth... oh wait, he is working somewhere else. Well, Pat Roy is a good choice, all that experience and everything.

Agreed. SI should really look at other sources for its material.

The Toronto Sun will print anything. I'm not sure if people even read that rag anymore. But it is nice to see that the Leaf's have one paper in their corner.

April 27, 2009  05:56 PM ET

Isn't Montreal's season over? How irrelevant is this post! Nothing to cover in with the current playoff series??

April 27, 2009  07:51 PM ET

Nice to see Maple Leaf fan criticizing Gainey and laughing at the Habs. The Leafs are doing sooo well and their team looks so strong for next year !
The Bruins finally are a good team and should go deep. They may sweep other teams before the playoffs are over. The only deal Gainey should really regret is firing Julien.
Go Habs ( next year)
And for this year Go Bruins, they're due and they deserve a Cup.
