Flyers GM on Wild's radar?

The Wild need a general manager. Interim GM Tom Lynn certainly warrants consideration. But if he's not the choice of owner Craig Leipold, an obvious choice would be Paul Holmgren, the former St. Paul Harding, Gophers, North Stars and Fighting Saints player who is GM of the Philadelphia Flyers. The trick would be prying Holmgren, 53, out of Philadelphia.

Craig Leipold has everyone on his radar, prying Homgren out of Philly would indeed be tricky. He has built a good team there and a competitive one in a city that is great to play in...Why would he go to Minny? Well, I guess there is always money...But keep in mind that Pierre Mcquire is on Leipolds list of candidates too...

This is a ridiculous article. This rag is as bad as the Toronto Sun or New York Post. Every story from it is plain ridiculous.

Good luck, he wouldnt leave Phila for Minn.

April 27, 2009  10:06 AM ET

Wouldn't he want to go out and get a GM of a team that actually wins inthe Playoffs?

Zing!!

He would for money and the an actual GM title. He is still an interim GM there. Philly could decide to let him leave. Stranger things have happened.

Well I guess he isnt an interim in Philly. I stand corrected. Money. No doubt he could still leave for money.

What!?! Isn't there anything else to post on this site? There is no way Holmgren is leaving the Flyers for the Wild; not going to happen.

April 27, 2009  11:36 AM ET

Not happening...

you mean the 2008-2009 playoffs? Because prior to this year I'd say the Flyers haven't done too bad in the playoffs.

I knew I'd catch hell for that one. Just a little Playoff dig. :)

That was what--the entire 70's and early 80's?

I think the Flyboys biggest problem is that "you have to be tough to win" mentality. When they concentrated and just played hockey, they outplayed the Pens in their series. This isn't the 70's anymore, skill trumps toughness.

Homer's made some good moves here to rebuild the Flyers, but there has been some AWFUL mismanagement of the salary cap to the point where he had to UNLOAD at the trade deadline(Upshall, Metropolit, Kukkanen) and had no chance of upgrading. Would've been nice to be flexible and add someone like Jokinen, Guerin, Antopov or Recchi at the deadline. Or at the very least keep Upshall to play with Briere and Giroux...

How about Bob "Nine-and-Half Fingers" Clarke? He got his start in Minny.

I wouldnt really call losing metro vaananen and upshall unloading. They were valuable players but they can easily be replaced.
