NFL draft getting bigger in 2010?

07:52 AM ET 04.28 | The NFL draft is big. It could be getting bigger. Much bigger. The NFL inched its annual draft toward prime time last weekend. Next April, the NFL is considering giving the first round its own day -- and a prime-time television slot. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday the league was discussing the possibility of staging the first round of the 2010 draft on a Thursday evening, the second and third rounds Friday evening and the final four rounds Saturday. The event would remain the cable television domain of ESPN and the NFL Network. "We're more confident now, with the timing of the first round, that it can fit a 3 1/2-hour window," Goodell said. "We think it can be very appealing from a fan's standpoint and an audience standpoint. "We'll talk to our teams about it. We have to see what impact this would have on them. But I think it has potential." The NFL has been pondering such a move for a few years, but there was one major obstacle -- those cumbersome six-hour first rounds. Goodell and the league had to figure out a way to shrink the opening round to fit into an abbreviated prime-time window.

The NFL should consider giving teams just 5 minutes to make thier pick in the 1st round in the draft. This way the draft would have a better pace and things would get done very quickly in the 1st round.

Yeah, but the alloted time we have now allows for previous pick analysis and then advertisement to get air time. As big as the NFL and the draft are now i can only see more and larger bags of money being handed over for advertisement rights.

And now a word from our sponsor.........

Replace them both they're terrible. Boreman's schtick has gotten old (are you ready for some NFL draft) and Kiper looks like a 70's mafioso ala Don Corleone. Of course, thanks to McShay, Kiper actually seems competent.

They cant make the time that short for the 1st round picks because they would make it almost impossible to make trades with that little time in between picks. The 1st rounders are more valuable in terms of trade value so they cant just fly thru the 1st round for your convenience.

With that kind of advertising package, you'd think the NFL was marketing to Carl Brutananadilewski.
