Book: A-Rod juiced in high school, as a Yankee

06:54 AM ET 04.30 | Alex Rodriguez may have bulked up with steroids as early as high school - and was suspected of juicing while playing for the Yankees, a bombshell new book reports. Although the slugger insists he dabbled in steroids only while with the Texas Rangers, the book "A-Rod" strongly suggests he didn't give up performance enhancers when he came to New York. Sports Illustrated writer Selena Roberts, who broke the story that A-Rod flunked a steroid screening in 2003, reveals fellow Bombers nicknamed the third baseman "B---h T--s" in 2005. That was after he put on 15 pounds in the off-season and seemed to develop round pectorals, a condition called gynecomastia that can be caused by anabolic steroids, she writes. In addition, an unnamed major-leaguer is quoted as saying Rodriguez and steroid-tainted pitcher Kevin Brown were seen together with human growth hormone - HGH - in 2004. Rodriguez put on 25 pounds of muscle between his sophomore and junior years, and word was that his connection was a dog kennel owner. A former high school teammate told Roberts the future No.1 MLB draft pick was on steroids and his coach knew it. Another student said the son of coach Rich Hofman admitted he saw Rodriguez use steroids.

Well, this will make for an interesting day. Lots of maybe's and could have's.

Arod was using steroids as a child. He started out with "Juice" boxes.

April 30, 2009  07:14 AM ET

He makes me sick. If this is true. When will he finally tell everyone the entire truth and how many free passes is he going to get from the Yankees fans and all? The guy has lied every time he talked about it and the 2nd time he talked about it...it looked like he was laughing and thinking inside his head...I fooled all these idiots...He is a disgrace to the game.

I would not be surprised if it's true, though I hope it's not. I guess I'm still kinda holding on to the image he had before. There were rumblings about A-Rod years ago when Canseco first came public, so I guess we'll see what he says.

I know everyone will lock on the steroids part of this, but I find this little excerpt from the article much more disturbing:

"In one shocking disclosure, the book accuses A-Rod of 'pitch tipping' when he was with the Rangers - letting a friendly opponent at the plate know which pitch was coming in lopsided games.

Rodriguez expected players he helped would do the same for him when he was having an off night and needed to get his batting average up and it wouldn't affect the outcome of the game."

An A-Rod/steroid article? Really?Good morning folks. The doggie in my avatar is one of my best friend's and he passed away on Tuesday. He was 105 in dog years.

:(

Losing any friend hurts.

Whats even more disturbing then that is that the article talks about how he only tipped 15% at Hooters. The bas--tard.

"...reveals fellow Bombers nicknamed the third baseman "B---h T--s" in 2005."

Can you imagine that chant at Fenway this summer when he comes to Boston?

April 30, 2009  08:09 AM ET

After hearing all this I think when he breaks the record they are going to have to put an asterisk on Arod's achievement as well. This just gets worse and worse for him, he might as well just marry Madonna and be done with it at the rate he's going.

Believe it. Oh it's true, it's true.

So, did he wear a tux or a gown to the prom?

Athletes are known as very poor tippers. A friend of mine is a limo driver and he can't stand when he is assigned athletes.

That's a good run for a big dog. Must be heartbreaking for the family.

Probably since they make stupid money, they have no concept of what costs what anymore. Kinda like Bush The First not knowing how much a loaf of bread is or a gallon of milk.

Or, they could just suck as human beings.

That must be why they call this "Truth & Rumors." If they wanted to talk about facts, they might call it "news." (Wow, that sounds absurd, even to me.)

Fact: after 21 games, the Yankee starter with the best ERA is.... Andy Pettitte? How long can that last?

He says hockey players are the best among the athletes. The rule of thumb is the less money they have the better they tip.
