Coyotes deny NHL is controlling team

The NHL, which loaned the Coyotes money in February to keep the team in business, is now running the franchise and has promised Glendale that it would reimburse the city for parking fees and security costs owed by the team, Glendale City Manager Ed Beasley said. "The NHL is in charge of the team right now," Beasley said. "We have assurances from the NHL the money will be paid. . . . We are sitting down with the NHL and working confidentially with them, and the city expects to be paid in full." Coyotes President Doug Moss refuted that report late Wednesday night, saying the league has not assumed control of the Coyotes.

FOLD FOLD FOLD!!! Coyotes, Islanders, Predators, Bluejackets, Panthers or Lightning (maybe both) and Thrashers should all fold. Put 1 of those franchises in Ontario & 1 in maybe Winnipeg. The league will be even stronger than it is now.

Hopefully Bettman finally gets egg all over his weasel nosed face on this one.

Beasley says they are, Moss says they aren't. I'm more inclined to believe Beasley.

Do you think the Poison Dwarf would even notice?

Bettman should move the Coyotes to Kansas City. We're ready and are waiting. The facility is beautiful and the cooporate suites are sold out, pending the arrival of a team. Bring them here!

Also... That picture of Gretzky is horrible. I never realized how much Emilio Estavez really looks like him.

It's really pathetic how far Bettman still has his nose under the Great One's cape. Which is getting soiled by association these days...give it a rest Dwarf...the sunbelt isn't working. GWG retired 10 years ago...get it?

LOL that's a great picture. Go Wings!

From that picture, I'd say it's far enough - must be kind of pointy too.......

It's his local hero... Sergei the Great.

Phoenix is as good as moved. They have played their last game in Glendale. About 1 week prior to the draft, expect an announcement that they are gone, which will be about the same time that Glendale get their money from the league.

Gary Bettman must surely realise the error of his ways now... With empty buildings in Carolina, Atlanta, Tampa, Nashville, Phoenix, even Colorado can't come close to a sell out now... I do believe Colorado can survive though. This league will look very different in 3 years.

Winnipeg's MTS Centre doesn't have the prerequisite 18,000+ seating capacity, nor is it expandable. MTS holds 15,000 maximum capacity, the NHL won't move their until a new arena is built.

Hamilton, Copps Colliseum can hold 18,000...

Remember that scene in Total Recall when Arnold is in that fat woman suit and keeps saying "Two weeks! TWOOO WEEEEEEKKKSSS!!!!!"

Now tell me that The Great One does not remind you of that in that picture.

15,000 is still more than what they get in Phoenix.

This is true, it is also more than Atlanta, Carolina, Tampa, Nasville...

April 30, 2009  11:55 AM ET

I meant Nassville

April 30, 2009  11:55 AM ET

Nashville.

I say bring back the Nordiques, Jets, Barons, Golden Seals and of course... THE WHALE!!!

I want to hear brass bonanza come back triumphantly!

I totally agree with the Barons though!
