Rain disrupts Brickyard tire tests

Rain again disrupted a Goodyear test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but once the track dried shortly after noon, four NASCAR teams were able to get in nearly six hours of tire testing. The purpose of the one-day session, which was a continuation of last week's rain-plagued test, was to settle on the tire compound Goodyear will bring to a final test June 15-16. That session will involve about a dozen teams as Goodyear works to avoid the embarrassing problems that marred last year's Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. This year's race is scheduled July 26.

Hearing that they still aren't close to finding the right combination for Indy. They are going to cut it close to finding something before the race. Not really looking forward to this race.

April 30, 2009  09:43 AM ET

even if they had no tire issue, I still won't be looking forward to this race, possibly the most boring track on the circuit...can't leave out pocono, michigan, and auto club.

April 30, 2009  09:47 AM ET

wonder if there are going to be alot of deals for tickets upcoming? I don't see this race even close to selling out, if there's some good deals to be found, I just might go.

April 30, 2009  09:49 AM ET

the tire issue will not be resolved before then and this race will be just like last year and then the tire wars will begin.

April 30, 2009  10:06 AM ET

Hoosiers, Firestones.... have as many tire companies as makes of cars...

April 30, 2009  10:45 AM ET

This race better not turn into the disaster it was last year. It is one of my favorite races on the schedule.

Great thought but it won't happen

April 30, 2009  10:57 AM ET

The horror, tires wear out in 10 laps, the horror.

story sucks, this one involves turning left and right...

FIA introduced ??40m budget cap, increased maximum number of cars to 26, banned refuelling
FIA published decisions taken by the World Motor Sport Council yesterday:

2010 FIA Formula One World Championship

Applications to compete in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship are to be submitted to the FIA during the period 22-29 May 2009. Teams must state in their application whether they wish to compete under cost-cap regulations.

The maximum number of cars permitted to enter the Championship has been increased to 26, two being entered by each competitor.

The FIA will publish the list of cars and drivers accepted on 12 June 2009, having first notified unsuccessful applicants.

So far USGP, iSport, Lola and Prodrive expressed their interest in entering Formula 1.

After last week's testing
''The goal was to build upon what we've learned up to this point. We started last week on the control tire from last fall, the one that enabled us to make some 25-lap runs at the time. We went on to evaluate some additional compounds and constructions and we just didn't see the same results,'' said Greg Stucker, Goodyear's Director of Race Tire Sales. ''The one thing we know that changed over the winter was the amount of rubber on the race track. Our test last week was the first on-track activity since our fall tests, and the race track is much greener than we saw at that time. We're not getting the wear levels we'd like to see at this point.''

April 30, 2009  11:35 AM ET

Please get the tires right this time, another (non)-race like last year is the last thing Nascar needs.

Later, gator. Been nice fencing with you.

April 30, 2009  12:26 PM ET

same here, we'll call this one a draw, until next time, take it sleazy.

April 30, 2009  12:33 PM ET

As a fair weather fan of boring races.......I am not hoping for real racing based on this story. Might be a good day to do the wifie's list.

April 30, 2009  12:52 PM ET

Forget the tires altogether. Edwards had the right idea Sunday. Just have the guys run around the track. It would be just as exciting as the car 'race' they have there.

April 30, 2009  04:24 PM ET

Having a session in April isn't the answer. Have two sessions in June or one 3 day session. The weather in Indianapolis is so much different between April and late July. Indy is such a weather sensitive track, they need to be more on target with what tire compound will suit Indy in late July.
