Dolphins: White will only play QB

Coach Tony Sparano said Friday that rookie Pat White will play no other position except quarterback as the offseason program continues over the next two months. Sparano also said he has spent time considering NFL rules about use of quarterbacks on game days. Teams are allowed to have 45 players active for each regular-season game, with another eight on the inactive list. One of those eight usually is a designated third quarterback, who is permitted to enter the game. But if the third quarterback plays before the fourth quarter, the other two quarterbacks cannot play again in that game. Another possibility: keeping Pennington and White active (because White is expected to be used in the Wildcat package), and designating Henne as the third quarterback on the inactive list. In that scenario, if Pennington is injured in the first three quarters and Henne is brought into the game, neither Pennington nor White could play again that day.

This kid is not a NFL qb

May 3, 2009  08:39 AM ET

This dude is talented I think he'll wow people somewhere. Maybe not as a QB.

May 3, 2009  08:40 AM ET

I agree,,,, just not as a starting qb.

May 3, 2009  08:40 AM ET

shyte,,, he only weighs about 180

May 3, 2009  08:44 AM ET

I weigh more then he does. jajjaja but he will play other positions in the wildcat

May 3, 2009  08:44 AM ET

They'll figure something out for this guy. Maybe they want him to learn the playbook from a QB position then move around, who knows? He will be used though, a lot.

yep,, damned fast kid,,, they will find him a spot

He's way too athletic to sit idly on the side lines.

The Dolphins are not going anywhere this year. Why? They do not have the cupcake schedule they had last year. The Pats are better, the Jets should be better, but here is why. They also play the AFC South and the NFC South, neither of which had a losing team in 2008. Add in games against the Steelers and the Chargers, and it all adds up to do whatever you want with Pat White, it is not going to matter.

well said, i agree

That would be a best case scenario. I see him sitting in the trainers room if they play him too much.

that's not talking ****...thats giving his opinion on a team that will struggle this year. It would be a different story if the phins had success last year without the wildcat, but they didn't. Noone will be surprised by the wildcat this year. Chad Pennington will not have the same success that he had...Phins finish 3rd or 4th in the the East this year.

Pat White may not be great but he will be effective. I don't understand why people have no confidence in this cat. I hope he breaks out and proves the football world wrong.

I suddenly feel like the coach from Colorado

You people have no idea. Sit in your little world and watch it explode in your face. Pat White is the future. Don't try to figure out how it's happening. Just sit back, consume your chips and beer, and enjoy the show.

This guy is built for the CFL... so if the ignorant fools in the NFL don't see this guys potential... we'd love to see him come up North. (see Doug Flutie... also small... and 'not an NFL QB'
