Texans owner puts Kubiak on hot seat

Texans owner Bob McNair raised the bar, saying that after all of the offseason moves geared toward improving the defense, he expects a playoff appearance. McNair also pointed to a favorable start, as Houston opens with three of four games at home. That won't make fourth-year coach Gary Kubiak sleep any easier. One of the Texans' biggest problems has been in AFC South play; Kubiak is 2-10 over the last three years against the Colts and Titans.

On one hand you can see why.

Nothing worse than being mediocre and the owner thinking you are more than that?

Fire the bum.

Houston has been in the league 10 years. Their first few years were shot because they were stupid in drafting a QB and having NO offensive line. They have slowly gotten a line started, have a decent QB (if he can stay healthy), you have a great RB in Slaton and need another back to compliment him, a great receiver, good tight end and a developing defense.

And 50, it could be a worse. You could be the Cowboys and have everybody think you're great because of your talent, only to blow up year end and year out.....just saying.

Ouch! When you keep drafting at the top of every round year after year after year, you are bound to draft some talent. But you are right, they are getting better lately. And it is fair to say that they could make the play offs this year. But if making the play offs is the litmus test to keep the head coach there, then they could undo all the good they have done by firing him at the end of the season.

It's called pulling an "Isiah Thomas" on the boss.

I agree that the Texans are better because of Kubiak. He implemented an offensive line attack that has helped them run the football. And hey, you draft at the top of the line each year, get better and then move down the draft as you get better. They started off last year with one of the most difficult schedules for the first 4 games. That set them back quite a bit.
They lost to Oakland because they thought more of themselves than they should have.

They still need another legit WR to help take the pressure off Johnson and Daniels. Slaton is a handful and was their best draft pick for the pick (3rd round, >1000 yds as a rookie).....can you say "thanks God the Texans DIDN'T draft Reggie Bush?"

They drafted a DE to help free up Mario but still need some LB's as well as both FS and SS. They won't make the playoffs this year, but that is due more to their conference than anything else. In the AFC West, they're the second best team.

Actually, they just may make the play offs. I think the AFC East had the easy schedule last year. Not this year. The Texans play the Bills, Seahawks, Rams ,Bengals and 49ers this year. The Raiders and Jets at home. Not one of those teams could be the favorite vs. the Texans this year. I would not rule the Texans out of the play offs this year. Not at all.
