06:52 AM ET 05.05 | Controversial goalie Ray Emery, who helped the Ottawa Senators reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 2007 - and who excelled in Russia this season - has drawn interest from the Flyers, general manager Paul Holmgren confirmed yesterday. "I have spoken with his agent numerous times over the course of the season on various matters, and, yes, Ray's name has come up," Holmgren said. Known for his hot temper, exotic cars, and extravagant lifestyle, Emery conceded that he was a heavy partyer in a 2008 interview with USA Today. While with Ottawa, he was involved in well-publicized confrontations with teammates.

If Philadelphia gets Ray Emery, they will be one tough team to play against. I always said, Emery was never a problem for the Ottawa Senators, he was only a problem to himself, and even then, only once in a while. He was used as a scapegoat by the worst coach in hockey at the time, John Paddock, and Bryan Murray needed a fall guy to back up his selection of Paddock as coach. Ray Emery can provide solid goaltending, consistency and a grit that Philly fans seem to love.

Perfect team for him

Nicely put. Hopefully he's grown out of that now.

Sign him. Sign Boumeester. Sign Komisarek. Ditch Briere (almost impossible with his contract but the Canadians may bite considering their mancrush). Ditch Lupul. Ditch Jones. Bring up JVR. Resign Knuble and Alberts. Trade Jeff Carter for a Russian.

The revolving door that is the Flyers goaltender continues. Another OK/decent goaltender to be between the pipes for 2 years before they look for the next OK goalie. I can hear the Raaaaayyyyyyy chants already (Flyer fans are very witty with their chants).

This is one of those possible implosions that has a big upside.
They'll get rid of Briere easier than the NYR could ditch Redden...Sather will probably take him!

Do it Philly. Then wonder how you can't win in the playoffs with a team of stacked forwards and no goaltender.

May 5, 2009  09:38 AM ET

Nope, don't do it Homer. I don't want Emery, thanks anyway. He's Biron with the attitude of Sean Avery. I'd rather have Biron over Emery and I'm not a fan of Biron either. I'd say trade something for Giguerre in Anaheim if they are willing to give him up, and GOD DAMNIT draft a goalie for once in the first round.

I wonder what the asking price for Lehtonen is

Just don't try to put a hat on his head.

May 5, 2009  10:25 AM ET

He will fit perfectly on the Flyers. ;)

Here we go again, Philly looking to sign a goalie that may or may not fulfill their needs. Emery is just another guy who could be great, but at the same time not be great. If they sign him it will just be another question mark in goal. Goaltenders in the NHL are like quarterbacks in the NFL - not nearly enough good ones to go to every team. On the other hand Emery may be a good signing; Biron is a free agent and will demand more money than Emery. The Flyers are in salary cap hell, so they may not find a better goalie at a bargain price.

It's not like there is a goalie out there that will solve their needs.

You would think they would get lucky one of the times, no?

Dump Biron, sign Emery. The choice is clear.

Another thug...just what philly needs.

Ray Emery is a much more technically sound goaltender than Martin Biron.

I'm surprised the Russian Mafia didn't chop his hands off for that.

This is actually fairly acurate. TSN was reporting on it, citing Homlgren himself.
