Browns pass on Harrell

The Browns offensive coaching staff was impressed with Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell and might like to add him to the roster in the future, Harrell's agent said on Monday. The staff felt Harrell, who participated in rookie camp on a tryout basis, picked up the system quickly and has great potential, the source said. However, the team let him leave town without a contract, in part because it currently has four quarterbacks on the roster: Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson, Brett Ratliff and Richard Bartel.

Oh I thought this site was supposed to report on important stuff.

With the crew of solid losers they have at QB, why take someone with potential? Quinn, Anderson, Ratliff, and Bartel all should be asking to be released, fired, whatever. the bottom feeding Browns will battle Cincy for the cellar again.

He should try in catch on with the 49ers

Not a bad idea. It's funny that his WR gets drafted, his team dominates but he can't catch on with a team as bad as the Browns...I'm sure someone will go after him eventually

he will make someones practice squad...

Richard who?

Seems this is a good thing for Harrell. Now he can try with a team with a chance to win.

Ok - the dude tried out and they don't want him - the reason for this news is????????

The reason for this is that he was one of the most productive QB's in college football last season and there doesn't seem to be any interest in him because of the offense that he ran. It would seem to me that he can make all of the throws, is a big body and runs a productive offense. Also, Erik Manigini is Jon Gruden Jr. when it comes to stockpiling QB's so for him not to latch onto Harrell is odd.

If you watched TT games,,, he's scared of getting hit.

May 5, 2009  09:56 AM ET

This guy should be picked up by Detroit. He would beat out Stafford.

May 5, 2009  10:10 AM ET

This makes no sense. They like him, they like what he did, the want him, he has potential, he picked up the system quickly and they DONT offer him a contract. They may already have 4 QBs but why not bring him in to compete with them? I don't understand the logic other than Mangini is still pissed at Leach. That and they are the Browns.

May 5, 2009  11:06 AM ET

This will be Quinn's breakout year. They did the right thing in releasing Harrell.

May 5, 2009  11:28 AM ET

Four QBs and all of them suck!

We Browns optimists call it the Battle for Ohio and look at as a first or second place arrangement.

Remember the Papillon? Remember Steve McQueen gets sent to the cooler for an escape attempt and it put on starvation rations for five years? He kills the roach in his cell, and then eagerly mixes in into his gruel?

That's where we Browns fans are my friend.

FJJ, once again proves that he is one of the top minds of Fan Nation.

I wish that were more of a praise; it was meant to be.
