Pennington likely Dolphins starter

Chad Pennington should be the Dolphins starter at the beginning of the 2009 season, assuming he is healthy. Where things go beyond that will be determined by Miami's record (are the Dolphins contending in 2009 or so far out of the picture they need to look to 2010?), how well Pennington is playing, and how fast Chad Henne and Pat White are progressing. But let us forget 2009 for the moment. It is an unquestionable fact the Dolphins are expecting a quarterback transition prior to the 2010 season. It will be either Henne or White if Bill Parcells' plan is followed. I still believe it will be Henne.

The Dolphins have put themselves in a corner. Chad Pennington has to start this year. He earned it last year. But he is a Free Agent after this season. If they tag him then they put big money in a guy getting older that was only going to be a stop gap measure. Henne is unproven and you get the feeling they are not sold on him as th Franchise QB. White? no one else thinks of him as a Franchise QB. There are some good QBs coming out next year, but the Dolphins should win enough games ( maybe 9 ) to take them out of the top spots..Pennington will find another team next year that will start him..

Poor Chad.....he's played one season with the Dolphins and he's already labeled 'likely' to be the starter....

The guy has dealt with this his entire career...he's tough and used to it. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Chad Henne takes over by mid season...

I'm glad the fins decided to start a QB - would have been funny lining up with no one to hike the ball to

Maybe that is why they drafted White. Going to the Wildcat full time. Now I get it.

He is like the pitcher that throws junk but shuts the other team down..doesn't look pretty, but gets it done. He does get top QB money though from his Jet contract. If he were on the Vikings you would have to make them the favorites in that Division..He will be in the league for a long time yet..

I agree with most on here Chad seems to always get a raw deal. I thought he could have been the Dolphins qb for a few years but apparently they are going in a different direction.

That's the problem with the all cookies diet.

50 has a very funny quote about this. You missed it while you were on vacation with the Disneyland kids.

Something about a catcher....

Casey Stengel and Choo Choo Coleman, a great story..Stengel was actually Babe Ruths room mate one year, he said he did not room with Ruth, he roomed with Ruth's suitcase..Where are the coaches worth listening to anymore? You know, like Bum Phillips when he was asked after a loss about his offenses execution and he responded that he was" all for it."
I respect guys like Belichik and all, but that other part is missing..ok, got that off my chest..whew..

Well the Dolphins are a young developing team might as well trade Porter away and get some value out of him.

May 5, 2009  04:41 PM ET

I think it will be Henne also but I wouldn't count out White. He has proven a lot of people wrong so far.

May 5, 2009  05:52 PM ET

Chad knew this coming in here. He was told to mentor chad henne and devlop the recievers.

NO drama and chad henne in 2010!!! Point blank

Pennington is one of the highest paid mentors in history. You would think any number of veteran QB s could have done the same then. I just don't know. Do they really like Henne that much? if so, why a number two on White? The do have other needs and that is a lot to pay for a few gadget plays? I really do not have any idea how they really feel about Henne. Parcells has a hate hate relationship about all QBs.
