Swedish goaltender Jonas Gustavsson confirmed on Wednesday that he intends to play in the National Hockey League this fall. And he'll have several potential suitors to consider when it comes time to make a decision, including the Toronto Maple Leafs. Gustavsson, 24, was the top goalie in the Swedish Elite League this season while playing for Farjestad. He posted a 1.96 goals against average and a save percentage of .932 in the regular season, and led the team to the league championship this spring. "I'm going to go over (to the NHL) after the season, but I don't know where or when," Gustavsson told TSN. "There are a couple of teams interested, I don't know exactly how many...there's a bunch of teams." Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke is believed to be interested in Gustavsson's services, but he won't be able to speak to the netminder until next week.

Toronto already has Toskala, Gerber, Joseph, Kolzig and Pogge... I know the first 4 are older, but do they really need another goaltender in the stable? Philadelphia, Detroit, Colorado, Tampa Bay, New York Islanders, Los Angeles, Edmonton, Chicago

YES they do have a need MO.
Cujo & Ollie as they say in goodfellas, "forgit about it"
Gerber is a questionalble backup and Pogge does not seem capable of handling the pressure of the Toronto theatre at the ACC etc. It takes more than talent to play in places like Toronto and Montreal, Detroit, NY and Boston to a lesser degree. (Price would be much better in Columbus too). Gustavasson would serve well as a backup to Toskala should this happen. Is he the next Hiller or Varlamov...I doubt it, but one never knows until they hit the big pond.

Well, at least Pittsburgh sucks.

Awe, someone is upset by the Pens win last night.

Leafs might as well take the chance if they can, just as lots of other teams if the price is right. Could get lucky.

Both Cujo and Kolzig are free agents. so they aren't a factor. Leaving Toskala who Burke doesn't like and Ron Wilson pushed out of San Jose. I see him either being released or traded. Thus leaving Gerber and Pogge. Burke hasn't been very candid about how he feels about Pogge. This being said he had no future in Toronto. This move would make perfect sense for the Leafs or the Red Wings. However I cannot get by how small this guy looks in net. I mean he looks like he's 112 pounds soaking wet. And he wheres a HUGE jersey to boot. Just looks silly.

Don't feed the troll.

I realy think the Stars need to look at this guy , he could be Turcos backup next season which could realy benefit him , and also get a good number of games as this season has showed that Turco needs that rest and backup quality that Mike Smith had gave him. Also with Turcos age he could be ready to replace him in the next couple of years.

I would never argue that point. My point lies in the contracts. Who wants Kolzig? Who wants Gerber? Who wants Cujo?

The troll has deftly changed his name from GunSlinger to Pittsburghsucks. The funny thing is, is that all he/she does is post about the Penguins and Crosby. It's the most pathetic thing I have ever seen on interent based forums...

Kolzig and CuJo don't have any contractual ties to the Leafs anymore. So it doesn't matter. Their old news and Leafs fans shouldn't worry about them.

Yep, as I have stated in other threads, you feed the troll, he comes back for more. Best to ignore him.

How much is he going to be asking for? That could affect where he goes.

The hype over unproven players is enormous, especially when the Toronto papers are overblowing a guy's importance... This guy hasn't proven anything yet... so whoever gets him better bring him along very slowly, and see how he handles the best shooters and the most pressure of playing in the best league in the world.

Toronto is logical, but I still say Toskala is the undeniable #1, and this guy would be groomed possibly for the following season.

Pogge is a tool.

The Leafs give him the best chance to be a starter.Gerber, goneCujo, goneKolzig, gonePogge, in the minorsSo Gustavsson could split time with Vesa or the Leafs could even trade Vesa and give Pogge and Gustavsson a chance. The Leafs don't have that many goalies.....they will all be gone.......

There should be a limit as to how much a non-drafted first year player can receive, or is there?

Haha, yeah I'm upset by the Pens win last night, but at least I dont troll about it like some people.

On a side note, I finally found something good to say about the Pens team/organization - they play kick ass music at their home games. I heard Metallica, Slayer, Motorhead, Dio...very nice. Too bad I hate the Pens more than I hate socialized healthcare.

You have no idea. They play some awesome music. I go to a lot of home gomes, and the music is great.

Don't forget Jane's Addiction.

I think the music they play is what the players prefer and what is played in the locker room before/after the games (at least genre). I notice more "poppy" music at other arenas for the crowd. Not at the Igloo. It is pretty heavy.
