Oregon can't confirm PG commitment

According to reports on the Internet, Malcolm Armstead, a 6-foot, 195-pound guard out of Chipola (Fla.) Junior College, has signed with the Ducks, but that is not true - not yet, anyway. Oregon coach Ernie Kent, who has said he will keep his options open, cannot comment on specific athletes, but he said he has not gotten any paperwork from any recruits. Armstead, a teammate of Oregon recruit Jeremy Jacob at Chipola, averaged nine points, five assists and two steals last season as a freshman (he has three years of eligibility remaining) and shot 53 percent from the floor, 66 percent from the free-throw line. His coach at Chipola, Greg Heiar, did not return phone calls Wednesday. A two-star recruit, Armstead is considered an under-the-radar prospect by some. A sturdily built guard with a strong crossover dribble, Armstead chose the Ducks over St. John's, Iowa, Arkansas and Providence.
