Rodriguez at impasse with Blazers
It sure looked and sounded like the end of the Sergio Rodriguez era in Portland when the Trail Blazers backup point guard packed his belongings with the rest of his teammates and left the team's practice facility for the summer. This time, Rodriguez knew it could be for good. Although Rodriguez was happy, and reflected on his third season with fondness, he said a trade is not only something he would welcome, but something he halfway expects this summer. McMillan and Rodriguez have had countless conversations over the years about his role, including one early this season when Rodriguez's agent in Spain (he also has an agent in the states) raised eyebrows by requesting an immediate trade. Rodriguez was embarrassed by the commotion over his agent's request, and teammates say he never became a cancer or distraction on the team. However, Rodriguez now feels like he has reached an impasse with McMillan.

They've got a few young point guards (4?), not familiar with any of them outside of Blake though. Just have to hope they keep the right ones I guess. Obviously Roy handles the rock a lot, so they do not need a star at the one, just a pass first mentality who can shoot the long ball and pay some D.

he's gone-
either a sign & trade or simply just walking
they already have blake & bayless & will likely upgrade anyway
The Blazers have a lot of decent young talent- but they MUST
mix in some vets this off-seasonfor them to legitamately
compete in the playoffs- which is what it's all about

This will be a good deal for Knicks and Portland: Sergio and Joel Przybilla in a sign and trade for David Lee which gives Lee a starting salary of 8.5mil. David Lee, Aldridge and Oden will give Portland a formidable front court.

You're kidding, right? The last thing the Knicks need is an on-the-job trainee at point guard.

Given what D'Antoni made out of Duhon last season having another non starter material play major back up minutes is not a bad idea. The Knicks aren't going anywhere next season so trying to develop his potential for the future is worth it.

At some point they are going to have to address that fact that they have a whole team full of back-ups. When do we start the search for the starters. What are you suggesting 'Antoni made out of Duhon? From where I sit, he established that Duhon is no more than he's ever been--a so-so back-up.

The guy averaged 11pts and 7 assists last season - he had a career year! I do agree with you on the need to get starters. That will start after the end of next season. For now the plan is to get under the cap while evaluating talent... simple and plain. If Walsh gets corky and picks up a bad contract for next season we will suck eternally.

I'm not even a Knicks fan, hell they are in the same division as the Raps, but I do hope they get a couple of great players and turn it into something special.

Dude; where are you getting your information? Rodriguez averaged 4.5 points a game. I guess you could call that a career year, since last year he averaged 2.5

When it comes to the Knicks situation I don't see how anyone would want him. No matter what the outcome is next year or how the future looks you have to start building a team, position, by position, to compete.
When it comes to the East unlike the West you will need a competent PG on your team to compete. The Celtics have Rondo, The Cavs have Delonte and Mo, The Magic Alston & Nelson, Hawks Bibby. I believe in the East your gonna need something more than Rodriguez, and Duhon. Ronald "Flip" Murray, Kidd, Miller, Bobby Jackson are all available. Even though you want to clear enough cap space for two superstars the Knicks are going to NEED a solid PG.

Pretty sure he is talking about Chris Duhon, not Sergio Rodriguez.

Lee would be a nice addition but Portland won't trade Przybilla. D'Antoni would be a good coach for Sergio. He has great court vision and runs the Blazer offense better than Blake. If his scoring improved under D'Antoni he would be an asset to the Knicks.

the blazers don't need Lee-
they need dependable VETERAN scoring & toughness.
I like lee alot- but he'd be USELESS in portland
he's not a 'scorer' he's a garbageman-
you're not giving the ball to lee when you're down by one
with 10 seconds left->> and Roy's not passing to him for the shot
