Is Kidd's future in Miami?
The Heat could be in position to finish off its roster by choosing from a group of 2009 free agents and salary-cap exceptions with which to work. One particular name comes to mind: Jason Kidd. Considering the 36-year-old is in search of only a championship at this point in his career, and given his familiarity with fellow Olympians Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, it's hardly a stretch to believe Kidd would make his way to Miami. And given how most are expecting large paydays hard to come by this summer, it's likely the Heat could have him at a bargain price. He's a playmaker at the point, one of the best defenders at the position, an ideal mentor to Mario Chalmers and the type of all-time great Pat Riley would ride with any day.

"one of the best defenders at the position"
Did I travel back in time 5-10 years? Where is Sarah Connor?

" it's likely the Heat could have him at a bargain price"
Well that's the whole ball of wax right there...
it's ENTIRELY up to what kidd wants - if he's willing to take a
mid-level...he can go ANYWHERE
we'll see what the chance of winning a ring really means to him
or if he just wants more coin before he retires

I assume you are trying to show Kidd is a great defender? Steals are never a good indicate, you are taking a lot of chances too. Grabbing rebounds means he likely left his man, another hit and miss situation. Quick guards run circles around him.
The majority of defence doesn't show up on the score sheet.

No no no helllllllll no!
The only veteran point guard Miami should go after is Bibby.
Or get Ben Gordon.

Good one! Riley Coyote goes from bad to worse. Maybe the Miami Herald hasn't seen him against Paul, or Parker, or Devin Harris, or even Steve Nash. I think that's the dumbest statement I've ever heard from them. The premier guards are running through Kidd like Ex-Lax.

Look Miami is over the cap so they can't sign him to something more than the mid level exception - a figure a lot of teams can easily afford and don't forget he played well for the Mavs this season so there's a huge possibility Cuban will sweeten the pot to make him stay.
The 43 million investment into Jermaine O'Neal basically took away all the financial flexbility the heat had.

Bibby will cost way too much $
Gordon actually wouldn't be a bad option since wade handles the
ball so much- but he also is going to want big $$....

Read the thread again. If the Heat intend to make a run for a championship, ANYTHING they pay for Jason Kidd is too much. Maybe you missed his stellar performance on Tuesday night.

Ah decisions decisions.
Miami has contracts that are off the books for next season.
Luther Head, Magloire, Joel Anthony and Moon.
Cant resign them all.
Head, Moon and Magloire should be resigned.
Then again Jones, Dorell and Diawara's contracts are all guaranteed next season.
Blount should be removed if he isnt getting any minutes.
Joel Anthony is a poor man's Ben Wallace nothing more nothing less.
Something must be figured out.

We dont have enough money.. And since the Hawks didn't draft bibby we cant sign and trade.
This would be a great move.. Kidd and wade and have chalmers as a good back up point guard learning from Kidd...DO IT RILEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And for the Bosh thing.. that is soooo freakin stupid.. Beasly has so much potential to trade him for a guy for one year. Wait till free agency in 2010

The stupid writer said Miami could get Kidd for the veterans minimum and I was saying that won't happen because Miami is over the cap plus Kidd has played well to deserve the full mid level exception or better - something Cuban will easily do plus Miami is nothing close to a contender. How dumb can Riley be - after wasting money on Marion, Jermaine O'Neal and to some degree Shaq, he won't make the mistake of spending on another guard that's an injury away from retirement.

I agree there, they don't need a true point guard.
However, someone who can defend would be better than Gordon. Gordon would be a great sixth-man, I don't like him as a starter.

He's gonna be a great mentor for Chalmers, but that's about it.

I think Gordon's offense easily makes up for his defense, especially on the Heat, who can still be offensivly challenged putting d-wade, beasley, Jermaine O'Neal, james jones, and daquaen cook out on the floor.

I think what Miami needs is a spot-up shooter at point guard. Kirk Hinrich or Mike Bibby would be much better options than Jason Kidd.
