08:56 AM ET 05.09 | Patrick Roy paid a visit to Denver this week amid speculation he may return to the team he starred with as a player over five years ago. According to the Denver Post, Roy met with Colorado Avalanche president Pierre Lacroix to discuss a position with the team. Avalanche vice president of media relations Jean Martineau told the newspaper that Roy was in Denver for a short visit and is departing today. Since retiring in 2003, Roy has been part owner and head coach of the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, winning a Memorial Cup title in 2006. The report indicates that Roy preferred to remain the head coach in Quebec as long as his sons, Jonathan and Frederick were playing with the Remparts. Neither of the two are with the team anymore, leading to speculation the Hall of Fame goaltender is ready to move on.

Don't make him GM, if you want to hire him and groom him as a GM fine, but make him learn the ropes and earn it first. I don't care who you are (look at Yzerman).

Eventually logic would tell us he will end up in the Avalanche organization in one capacity or another...eventually...

You totally misunderstood my comment, I wasn't suggesting making Yzerman the GM of the Av's! HAHA
I said look at how he is gaining experience working under Holland and as Team Canada's GM, do that with Roy maybe, but do not automatically appoint him to GM.

The State of Colorado has a hiring freeze. Sorry Patty, your time here is up.

Take the job with the Avalance Patrick. It will be the only real chance either of your kids has to play in the NHL. Seeing as their skills (or lack thereof) won't be enough.

They aren't talking to Roy about the GM role, that I can all but guarantee you. This is about coaching, likely as head coach, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him as an assistant either. I don't think an outside GM will be hired.
Pierre Lacroix doesn't let anything leak out to the media. By allowing this to come out, I can only speculate that something is imminent. I fully expect an announcement in the coming days that Craig Billington and/or Michel Goulet will serve as GM (likely co-GM's, I would guess) under the "new management structure", Patrick Roy is the new coach, and Tony Granato has been reassigned in the organization (maybe VP of player development, which will be vacated by Billington). That's all a guess, but I have a feeling that it won't be too far off.

Coaching or managing a team in the junior ranks doesn't compare with the pro level. He should learn the ropes before taking either jobs at Colorado. And one could make the case that he doesn't have the temperament for them.

BTW, bgm, what's up with those Canes? Tougher than we thought initially? Bruins in 7 - the real test for a young team.
