Drogba on way out

09:49 AM ET 05.10 | The fallout from Didier Drogba's hilarious (sorry, despicable) wild-eyed rant at referee Tom Henning Ovrebo continues to build. he striker's spectacular explosion following Chelsea's Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona looks like having far-reaching consequences. Not only did the Ivorian make a fool out of himself (there's something rather undignified about losing the plot wearing a pair of flip-flops - think angry holiday resort guest) but he is also set to be slapped with a hefty European ban. The length of any possible suspension is currently estimated at anything from six games to six months, but it was Drogba's reaction in the dressing room after the match - and not on the pitch or in the tunnel - that will be of greater concern to Chelsea fans. Having unloaded his bile in Ovrebo's face - and then to the television cameras - a still-fuming Drogba went on to let rip in the changing rooms over Guus Hiddink's earlier decision to substitute him.

In reality, the blues can do better.

May 10, 2009  03:14 PM ET

I don't blame Drogba for that cheating refs bullsh*t.

May 10, 2009  03:29 PM ET

I wish Drogba was on the way out of football entirely.

May 10, 2009  04:09 PM ET

What will Chelsea do without their main diver, er, striker? lol, seriously, how can this guy accuse anybody of cheating with a straight face? I agree with The Special One, Chelsea can do better.

May 10, 2009  06:32 PM ET

He was right to speak his mind. There's freedome of speech as far as I'm concerned and the ref was terrible and should be fired.

May 10, 2009  06:50 PM ET

So Didier is mad because a game he played in was fixed I would be upset to. Blatter and Planiti hate English teams

May 10, 2009  08:00 PM ET

this guy is a joke. i have no respect for him. where ever he goes that team will get a thug of a player

May 10, 2009  08:09 PM ET

Yeah yeah whatever. The worst mistake the ref made was the red card and that helped Chelsea, or should have. But even with the man advantage they couldn't score another goal. Had they, the whole thing would be moot. At least from the Chelsea side.

May 10, 2009  09:54 PM ET

Yeah Drogba might be a diva, but please can anyone tell me where was Chelsea before Drogba joined it? They were always looking up to the big three Arsenal, Liverpool and Man U. This guy put Chelsea back into the conversation of competitiveness, so y'all should look at the facts rather than blaring nonsense. Plus that referee was suspended from calling games for awhile because of severe previous mistakes. Im not condoning Drogba's act towards him but you can know at least know have to understand his frustrations about the noncalls. Its like the Dallas-Denver game yesterday.

Your an Inter fan aren't you? Probably a solid chance he ends up there.

Ref made mistakes with both sides. If Drogba was not such a diver all the time, he may have gotten some calls. Anyways, Drogba and rest of Chelsea had enough chances to put it away in both games despite the no-calls.

Agreed. Plus, Barca played better football and deserved to win.

May 11, 2009  01:38 AM ET

Barca got outplayed in that second game. Possession is useless without opportunities, and Barca had next to none. The worst mistake? They were all equally bad. The red card was as bad as Pique NOT getting carded (possibly sent off as well) and a PK awarded, as well as the blatantly in-the-box foul on Malouda. That ref was awful, and the red card does NOT outweigh potentially two more goals that would have put the game out of reach.

May 11, 2009  01:41 AM ET

By the way, I'm really tired of seeing this "Chelsea had enough chances" crap. Three of their chances were stopped by blatant fouls in the box that weren't called, the ones mentioned in my above post and the one on Drogba that I didn't mention, since it seems reputations now govern how the game is called in European football. I don't care if the man is a diver, you still call a foul when a foul is given. Period.

May 11, 2009  02:49 AM ET

I hope Madrid gets him, that will be dangerous with Raul Ruud, Drogba.... But they should target that french-algerian Benzema.. he is pretty good.

May 11, 2009  02:58 AM ET

Any team that plays for penalties doesn't deserve to win, or even wear a football kit.

Park 10 players in front of the goal, send one player to dive in the box, completely cede possession, even when playing against 10 men(!) and then try to pressure the referee into giving you penalties - That's your strategy?

Bah, the death of football.

May 11, 2009  02:58 AM ET

What elite team is going to pay for Drogba is he gets a lengthy European ban?

DOGba joined Chelski along with like 30 other players. You're going to give him all the credit? He used to be good but he'll always be a drama queen.

Chelski got what they deserved.

May 11, 2009  07:53 AM ET

good riddance.

Agree to add to that, Chelsea became relevant because of Jose not because of the cry baby Drogba. Simly put, look at where Chelsea was before Jose and look at what they are now. The departure of Jose was the beginning of the end for Chelsea....
