Sources: Knicks covet Curry in draft

A rumor that has been gaining steam is that the Knicks will select Stephen Curry with their 8th pick. We've received word that there could be truth to this from inside sources claiming that Curry chose to put his name into the draft this year based on the Knicks assuring Curry that they would use their lottery selection to draft him. Obviously a lot could happen between now and the draft. The Knicks could always win the lottery (they're not using a top 3 pick on him) or trade their pick. But it appears to be a legitimate possibility that if the Knicks have the 8th pick on draft night they will use it on Curry. Curry's game would fit extremely well in Mike D'Antoni's wide open style and his scoring ability would be enhanced.

Well, at least we'll have a natural shooter.

D'Antoni's system is an explosive guards paradise. I can understand where he's coming from. He can take it a notch up and let the whole league know the only team he'd only like to play the one and only richest NBA team - New York Knicks.

D'Antoni loves his scoring guards.
But the Knicks need to focus on defense, and who would want to play for the trainwreck that the Knicks are?

Mr.Lostwill, do you have something else to comment about?
Thank You.

I would love to see him playing for the Knicks, I think it would be a good fit. Unless DA has another friend in Italy that he promised he will draft their son. Curry would fit in better than last years pick.

God help his career if he ends up playing for the Knicks.

Steve Nash won two MVP's when he was D'Antoni's point guard. Stephon Marbury - yes the bonehead and most selfish player to ever exist became all star under D'Antoni. Chris Duhon - a natural born back up point guard had a career under Mike last season. Need I say more? Curry is smart enough to know if plays for Mike he will get a max deal by the time his rookie contract expires.

My only problem is having two Curries on the team will confuse Eddy as he'd confuse his plays with Steve's. Fat Albert pushing the ball will be traumatizing.

But if they get him, I think Nate is definitely gone.

I never follow the NCAA; is this guy a 1, a 2, combo, a swingman? Is he more than just a shooter, ala J.J. Redick?

Please please please let Nate go! We should have traded him and Jefferies for Kenny Thomas at the trade deadline... he will help the Kings sell tickets and save Mike D'Antoni some gray hair. I'd be shocked if he's on the Knicks roster next season!

More guards for NY. I feel sorry for Curry if he goes there. NY already had 1 Stephon and they might mistake him for the other.

He is a 2 guard that converted to PG this past season-

I REALLY don't want him in NY-
I think it would be a HUGE mistake

The kid can obviously shoot-
but he's WAY too small to play 2 guard and he cannot handle the
ball well enough to be a PG-
He also doesn't drive to the hole.
He will be AT BEST- like his father-a 6th man coming in to hit a few
shots........why draft him in the top ten for that ????
- It mankes NO SENSE

This would be a good pick for NY, if for nothing more than a chip to bargain with. I used to be against NY being stacked with guards, but the only success the Knicks are going to have is going to be in the hands of a capable PG. I like Nate Rob tho! NY definately benefit from his production this year and it was nice to see a Knick uniform at all star weekend for once, even tho it was green and in the dunk contest. Unfortunately I don't think he'll be a Knick for much longer either.

who would want to play for the knicks is not a relevant question here. they are talking about the DRAFT. if this kid wants to play in the nba next year and the knicks draft him, im sure he will be more than happy to play there rather than not at all.

May 11, 2009  09:07 AM ET

you mean I'll have a reason to wathc the knicks

Agreed - I have reservations about his strength like I did for Bayless - but given the moderate success Bayless had I think Curry's worth a 6 - 8 pick. He's like Bayless with an automatic shot... can't go wrong with that.

The Lebron sweepstakes is offically over! He's staying in Cleveland so now they have to build for the system and not for Lebron!

May 11, 2009  09:40 AM ET

Another point, isn't Lebron good friends with Curry too? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Nate is definitely gone with or without Curry
