Though the Rockets were stunned by Yao Ming's season-ending foot injury, they said there is a bright side in that it will not be a difficult injury to overcome. "He's got a long career ahead of him," Ron Artest said. "It's great that he's going to get healthy and get ready for next year. He's got a lot more wins to get. He helped us get this far."

Yao and McGrady need a change of scenery - they hardly make it to the finish line in Houston.

May 11, 2009  08:25 AM ET

The headlines makes it sound like he is coming back in the playoffs but he is coming back for next year.

"they said there is a bright side in that it will not be a difficult injury to overcome"

what moron said this ??
- he's have foot problems for YEARS now-
the guy NEVER plays full years and
he is getting older-
he'll be 29 next year & he is a freakishly large dude......
- Bigs that get chronic injuries CONTINUE to get injuries
& get even MORE slowed by age....

No Yao no problem.
Aaron Brooks had his way with the lakers.
Dominated on both ends of the floor, had them shook with his dribble penetration, getting Battier and the others wide open shots.
Not to mention a alley-hoop layup at the end of the third quarter.
Kobe with 7/17 from the field and just 15 points?
Really?
I guess the lakers thought the rockets would surrender with the absence of Yao.
But they were truly awaken and sadly mistaken!
I ask again to the lakers fans: Is it really lovely in lakerland?

ITS ALL LOVELY IN LAKERLAND

The triangle struggles with small quick guards. Lakers had to rely on Tyronne Lue to neutralize Iversion... Fisher will be 35 August and Kobe will be 31. Guard play can only take you so far but if the Rockets stay hungry and consistent with the penetration and kick out it wouldn't be lovely in Lakerland!

Phil will be gone - Kobe will may be tempted to join the only coach that speaks Italian to prepare a place for the King...

May 11, 2009  09:45 AM ET

Yao will bounce back and T-mac will too! like everybody else i'm sick of these guys getting hurt but if they can both be healthy around this time next year the Playoffs will be a bit more interisting!

May 11, 2009  10:07 AM ET

He is encroaching on T-Mac territory. Half-man, Half-season.

Yeah...ask Bill Walton how "not a difficult injury to overcome" foot fractures are? You don't realize how UNcommon guys like Ilgauskas are until you realize that HOF guys like Walton lost their careers to feet. Poor guy's gonna move like Fred Sanford for the rest of his career.

May 11, 2009  10:39 AM ET

I like Yao seems to be a nice guy, showed in Game 1 that he has alot of heart and is a top 5 center right now, but he is injury prone. There is no question the Rockets are a better team without T-mac, but are they a better team without Yao as well, after yesterday's annihilation of the lakers the once absurd comment that the Rockets are better without T-mac and Yao doesnt seem that crazy anymore....

May 11, 2009  10:52 AM ET

I would hope Yao comes back!

Lakers ought to take care of business. Yesterday was poor all around, coaching and otherwise, why Farmar is not playing bigger minutes I have no idea.

Not necessarily.

For the Lakers sake, Yao should play again against them. There is no excuse for the Lakers lackluster performance. Like what Phil said, you got to give credit to the Rockets for playing hard w/out their star player. The Rockets did not make Yao an excuse instead they used it to fuel themselves against the Lakers. The difference for the Rockets would be the plays of Brooks and Landry. These 2 guys are probably the x factor for the Rockets. The Lakers did not show up and they thought the series would be handed out on silver platter when Yao was gone. I still believe that the Lakes will still come out on top and this game should be a major wake up call for them. Kobe cannot come and go as he pleases. He needs to step up all the time. The supporting needs to follow his lead and continue to step it up.

Folks are wondering if I'm going to show my face. Despite our loss...IT'S STILL LOVELY IN LAKERLAND!!!

May 11, 2009  11:28 AM ET

Yes it is Dees.

It wont happen again.

The Rockets had extra motivation without Yao and they were at home.

Phil should start Farmar the rest of the way in this series. He matches up better with Brooks and Fish matches up better with Billups.

I Knew you'd show eventually. Can it be LOVELY and embarrassing at the same time?

I'll give you big Z-
but you know that the vast majority of bigs who have foot/ankle/
knee issues are basically living on borrowed time-

May 11, 2009  12:10 PM ET

Yoe's a big man with a lot of height and weight to carry on those feet. This will be the third time he has broken that foot; sooner or later, he won't be able to continue to play on that foot. So yes, it's good news that he will recover from this recent foot situation; but how many more times will he get another chance. He plays basketball year round, here in the NBA, and return to his country and play there until the NBA season begin again. He really need to take a break during the NBA off season. I did not believe the Rockets would beat the Lakers in best of seven series, but it was very interesting to see them try.

You know Hllywd, it can. That's why I love basketball, on any given day, anybody can win, one game. That's why I think the NCAA tourney is the greatest sports spectacle in all of sports. Yesterday, the Rockets proved that. Unfortunately for them, this is the NBA, and this is a seven game series.

I wonder about that too. Laker fans better put on rose colored glasses because it may be a bumpy ride to the championship series.
