Granato waiting on Avs decision

A telephone rings at the Tony Granato household and somebody yells "Dad!" for the Avalanche coach to take the call. The job status of Granato is up in the air, his boss has met with Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy, and there's a reporter on the line wanting to know if the Avs have decided who will be the coach of this last-place hockey team next season. "Kiz!" Granato says into the phone, and you can hear that upbeat smile in his voice. "You know I can't talk about this today." The NHL season was over long ago for the Avalanche. But the pressure on Granato is unrelenting.

Sad to see the Avs in such a state of disrepair. Move em back to Quebec City where they belong.

BRING BACK CRAWFORD... that was sarcasm.

If they were in Quebec I'd care again, alas we're just grown too far apart.

Yeah, because that'll fix everything.

It'll turn around. One thing about the Avs is that the front office is actually halfway competent and wants to win. One bad year in 15 is no reason to panic. However, you simply can't bring Granato back after last season.

Further proof that Canadian Hockey fans statistically end up wearing corrective glasses long before any other culture or Country...Colorado will rebound in time...no one team will ever be on top for long stretches at a time any more, get used to it. The time when dynasties where all the rage is long over...support your team...win or lose, love the game itself and enjoy it for what it is. Eventually , most City's will get their call to the top of the mountain.

I like Granato. I hope he has a long and less than stellar coaching career in Avsland. LOL!

Yeah. Let's just move everything back to Canada.

Ah yes, induced parity, one of the top reasons I'm been losing interest in sports leagues, particularly the NHL.

So a leveled playing field in which all the components of the sport are challenged from the ownership to managment and player development, drafting, coaching etc...turns you off more than a couple of wealthy owners who can attempt to purchase a winner on the ice without limitations on spending?
Interesting...especially since that formula doesn' t really work in the long run and that fact that even if it did, there is not really much of a percentage that those team would boast a Canadian address...Do you honestly pine for a 6-12 team NHL consisting of only Canadian Cities?
I'm sure the European players would be tripping over themselves lining up for plane tickets...The NHL would cease to be recognized as the ELITE place to play any longer. Trust me. Europe would rise and Canada would fall. See Soccer. Europe does actually have sports fans...One day, the NHL will probably have some form of conference over there too...Kind of like the American and National league of Baseball where the would ultimately meet in the playoffs. Actually, that would provide some very heated and patriotic rivalries going forward...

Wow, that's a radical interpretation of the text. That's odd, you are making assumptions that will make my position look back, even though they are totally off base.

Point out where I stated this, or even mentioned either nation.

Yet again, you have pulled something out of left field and tried to make it appear as I against this, yet I did not ever approach this subject, and in fact have always been in favour of it.

I stated the opposite where?

Sorry for the multiple posts, but I wanted to address each point separately.

Simply put, you are making assumptions and putting words in my "fingers/posts".

May 11, 2009  07:34 PM ET

Get over it Quebec fans... The Avs never really liked it there anyway...

Excluding Toronto, of course.
