More fuel for Dodgers-Giants feud

Dodgers third baseman Casey Blake has as reputation as a nice guy, but after he apparently insulted Brian Wilson with a gesture Sunday, the Giants' opinion of Blake sank dramatically. One by one, the Giants visited Wilson in the clubhouse after their 7-5, 13-inning victory to console him after a friend sent to Wilson's cell phone an image of Blake mocking the cross-armed gesture the closer makes after each save. Wilson's gesture partly relates to his religious faith and partly to his late father. Wilson seemed very distraught about the incident. As Tim Lincecum was about to address reporters, a team employee interrupted and pulled Lincecum away, presumably to talk to Wilson. Wilson wasn't eager to discuss the incident. Asked if he might talk to Blake the next time they meet, Wilson stood silent. Jeremy Affeldt, standing in the next locker said, "Blake knows what he did." Blake, who homered against Wilson in the 12th inning to deal the Giant his second blown save, was gone when two San Francisco reporters sought his response. Wilson pitched a perfect 13th to preserve the win.

Thisw rivalry still isn't half as good as Yanks-Red Sox

May 11, 2009  08:12 AM ET

I saw the high-lites of Sundays game on ESPN and since it was a day game it was still early evening and light out when it ended after 13 innings and the place was 3/4 empty! I know Dodger fans have a well know reputation for leaving well before the game ends but......damn.

May 11, 2009  08:31 AM ET

Allright, so Blake is something of a dick. NEXT!

May 11, 2009  08:44 AM ET

Nobody on earth has a thinner skin than baseball players. Big DEAL! Other athletes have to deal with a lot worse than this every day...get over it already. This silly unwritten code of ethics that baseball players have is ridiculous.

This really surprises me...Blake was nothing but a classact during his years with the Tribe. But if he mocked what seems to be a genuine tribute then he should be ashamed.

Stone him.....STONE HIM I say!!!!!!!

Yes, it is.

Talk to grandpa, he'll tell you how much these teams have always hated each other. It goes back as long as Yanks/Sox.

My dad (from B'klyn) was a Dodgers fan, mom (from the city) was a Giants fan. Talk about a family divided!

And use Panama Red!!

I say Casey Blake should be tarred and feathered and run out of LA. Wait, doesn't it seem like some relievers, i.e., K-Rod and Wilson are showing up teams with their gestures? If you want to get respect, you need to give respect.

May 11, 2009  10:53 AM ET

East coast bias again....this rivalry is as good with Yankees-Red Sox. Marichal hitting Roseboro with a bat in the head.

Jackie Robinson saying he would retire rather than being traded to the Giants.

May 11, 2009  10:54 AM ET

Double standard? Relievers can do anything they want and batters get crucified (not pun intended)?

Well maybe not to you, New Yorker. But out here in Cali, no one gives a $hit about the yanks/sox either.

Yep...pretty much. It's funny, i know TONS of baseball fans and live in southern CA, and NO ONE watches the sox/yanks games on when broadcasted on fox or espn.

May 11, 2009  11:41 AM ET

It will be a rivlary again when the Giants are actually good enough for it to be a rivalry. Right now they are winning but with the triple A lineup they field every day it is just a matter of time before they go on a 10 game losing streak

May 11, 2009  11:42 AM ET

Who are the Yankees and Red Sox and why should I care.

May 11, 2009  11:46 AM ET

Oh the Yankees. You mean that sub .500 team with the 200 Million dollar payroll and the $2500 per game seats that are empty for every game. That team. Again who cares.

May 11, 2009  11:48 AM ET

Iceman1 you make a good point. Though seems the Dodgers and Giants do, do damage to one or the other s teams when they are in contention. ie, knocking out of playoffs. That has happened more times in their series than in the Yanks Red Sox.

Hey Battery Chuckers... urrr Giants fans... How was that last World Series Title? Oh yeah, they haven't won since 1954 as the New York Giants.
