Kings, 76ers competing for Jordan

If Eddie Jordan chooses to be the Kings' next coach, indications remain strong his chances are better than the rest. But as the Kings may soon learn, it simply isn't that simple. While the Kings on Monday announced their intention to interview former Seattle and Phoenix coach Paul Westphal, Philadelphia announced its coaching search. And according to numerous league sources, the news that interim coach Tony DiLeo would head to the front office and create another vacancy meant one thing for the Kings: competition. With Jordan believed to be high on the 76ers' list of candidates, the Kings will get the first chance to lure him. Jordan told the Washington Post he will meet with Kings co-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof and basketball president Geoff Petrie today and Wednesday. According to a league source, Westphal will follow Jordan and be interviewed in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Where this road leads from there, however, is anybody's guess. While Jordan has publicly voiced his desire to reunite with Petrie in Sacramento -- where he coached from late in the 1996-97 season (6-9) and for the entire 1997-98 campaign (27-55) before he was fired -- he may also have incentive to look long and hard at what the 76ers have to offer.

Let either team have him. He didn't produce in Washington with the talent that he had there. What makes either team or any other NBA team think he will do any better for them. There is a reason he was canned in Washington and that was because he can't coach.

I hope Rick Pitino gets the job...
Then we won't have to play L'ville and worry.

I would think the better of the two jobs is Philadelphia's. I'd much rather have Brand and Iguodala than Kevin Martin.

ABSOLUTLEY-
also - If I were philly- I'd MUCH rather have EJ over Collins.

*cough......Sam Mitchell.....cough*

May 12, 2009  09:43 AM ET

76ers are better if you want to build with the youth their and Kings are the better team if you want to rebuild and clone a team around what you prefer............so which will he choose?

May 12, 2009  09:56 AM ET

The Kings can have him.

This should be a no-brainer. Sacramento is making absolutely no effort to compete. The Maloofs are interested in the business end of owning a team. Until they move the team to Vegas, it won't matter who the coach is. He can't win with the personnel he's being given to work with, and as a result will be fired in a year or 2.

I beg to differ - not every coach is in it to win - remember it's business first. I'd go with the team that will offer the most money and lowered expectations so even one win will be like Shaq hit a three pointer...

Yes, but how long will that last. Just ask Reggie Theus.

too much rubbish to quote:
#1 look at the Wiz record before eddie jordan, he was consistent with the talent he had... Wiz needs a new GM.
#3 Brand is done. Dre's game is not strong enough to build a franchise around... i will say his improvement & effort are impressive, but i think he has reached a Plateau.
"The Rest" Phili over Kings? (he scoffs) in the last decade the kings have been the better franchise! The Maloof's take care of their players & coaches, cant say that for Mr King. Kevin Martin is a Stud on the verge super stardom much like Granger this year.

Rebuilding takes time, and it wasn't that long ago when the Kings battle the Lakers every year for western supremacy. Dre' will leave philli. the only reason to take the phili job would be to compete in the weaker conference.

good coach based on what he did with the wiz but wont win in sac town or philly and will be fired within 3 years...

I think you ahve no idea what you are talking about
he was recovering from his achilles surgery at the beginning
of last year....was working himself into shape- then had a
FREAK shoulder injury.......
- granted tehguy has had too many injuries...but done ??

he's only 29 and has been a consistent 20-10 type guy
he'll absolutely be back next year and will likely come
VERY close to the same #'s - 18-8....that is ABSOLUTLEY
no too shabby & FAR from done-

Granted he isn't a 'franchise' player-
Him & iggy make a VERY solid tandem

Is it just me or does it seem like these NBA coaches are nothing more than a bunch of "re-treads"?

They bounce from one team to another while no NEW coaches are given a chance or are being breeded in the process.

Kudos to Miami for promoting a long time assistant in VanGundy a few seasons back then Spoolstra this past season.

At least SOMEBODY is promoting from within rather than getting someone else's failure.

May 12, 2009  01:47 PM ET

Good luck with that one

Just as other folks have said, the Maloofs have no intention of winning until they get to Vegas. Right now they are in an active process of pissing off the fans with their choice of players and coaches. Really Spencer Hawes a first round pick. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
