Jordan leaning toward Kings job?

At the Palms in Las Vegas, there are two towers in which guests reside and ??? on occasion ??? even revel. There is the more-aged "Palms Tower," its rooms far from flashy but the feel so very familiar. And then there is the "Fantasy Tower," home of the hotel's many high-end suites and boasting more than enough architecture to justify the name. Around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday night, a nattily-attired Eddie Jordan coolly walked between the two. Sporting a gray suit, leather briefcase and a confident air, he had just finished his interview for the Kings' head coaching vacancy. It was entirely fitting that the former Kings and Washington coach spent more than three hours Tuesday evening campaigning for his old job inside the older facility. And while the vacancy in Philadelphia means he stands between jobs of varying appeal as well, Jordan spoke from his Fantasy Tower room as if he wanted to make a return to Sacramento a reality. "No. 1, I have great respect and admiration for (Kings basketball president) Geoff Petrie, (Kings consultant) Pete Carril, and the Maloofs, for their energy, enthusiasm and excitement with their team," said Jordan, who was fired after his one full season with the Kings in 1997-98. "Second of all, I love coaching and developing, especially young players. I've been involved with young players both in New Jersey (as an assistant) and the Wizards (as a head coach). Third, I love Northern California. There are a lot of positives, a lot of good things. But before I get to the step of, 'Would I accept an offer?' it has to be offered to me, and it hasn't been offered to me yet." While former Phoenix and Seattle head coach Paul Westphal will be interviewed here today, Jordan's situation will remain front and center due to the context that surrounds him. He is believed to be high on the Sixers' wish list, although an NBA source said there is no interview scheduled with Jordan yet.

Lets get things straight-
Philly - currently- is a MUCH better job
that being said- if the Maloofs blow him away with $$$.....
by all means take it
- not sure WHY they would throw $$$ at a coach since the team
has ABSOLUTELY no shot at competing for a title any time soon

is it me or did T&R just repeat the same 3 stories from yesterday

Dude.. think about it...

more money.. lowered expectations... same reason D'Antoni chose Knicks over Chicago. It's no brainer. He'll most likely get fired before his contract expires but that's OK.. he'll prolly make more money leading the Kings to the lottery than leading Philly to a championship... these coaches have become corrupt like the refs and last year's Clippers.

jgb : the thing with Philly, I do not know if it is better Job : FA/ PG Andre Miller quickly burned bridges with the team = GONE : PF / Brand making him fit in : Samuel Dalembert, was unhappy with coach & GM + he has 2 years $ 25m left on contract With the Kings : Draft #1 now, after the Lottery : could be 1, 2, 3, or 4 + 23 from Houston for Artest + first pick in 2rd #31

yeah but philly is a playoff team-
the kings- even with the top pick are at BEST fighting for last
place in their division

I'm not talking ownership, $$, etc....
there is a MUCH better chance of competing (even getting to)
in the playoffs in Philly

read my post-
if the $$ is significantly higher- say 1 mil more -
go to sac town and have the maloofs roll in some strippers
enjoy-

but if it's roughly equal pay- he's gotta have some ounce of
competetive drive...especially after what happened in Washington

I have to believe Jordan is smarter than this. ANY JOB IN SACRAMENTO IS TEMPORARY. Ask Reggie Theus. This team can't win. The only reason to take this job is being broke, and even then it appears he has other options.

How do the Kings more pub than the rockets? This team is in big trouble?!

May 13, 2009  02:52 PM ET

Im with JGB on this. If the Kings offer more money, Jordan probably will take it over the Sixers. And with lower expectations, he will have a longer leash than he would compared to Philadelphia. Philly and its fans are among the most unforgiving in the sports landcsape if you dont perform.

If the Kings had reasonable expectations, Rick Adelman would still be coaching there. They have had four different coaches in the last four seasons. It seems like they are looking for a miracle rather than a coach that can grow with a young team. The Philly job is better because they already have playoff talent. If Jordan gets fired in Philly after making the first-round of the playoffs for three straight years, he'll be able to secure another job. If he gets fired from the Kings, he'll have look for a college position or the analysts' booth.

Jordan is a very good coach for Sac, he is the best style fit since Adelman. The Maloofs got Mark Cuban syndrome and thought they were the reason the Kings were winning when it was their money and Petrie's brains. They have finally let Petrie get control again and they will be rewarded with a great coach and an up and coming team. Jordan and their draft and offseason will help them get at least a battle for the #8 spot next year. They are obviously not completed yet but have a core that can be together for 10 years.

If money is what he wants, Sacramento is the place. If wins is what he wants, Sacramento is NOT the place.

jordan's a great coach... he was only booted out of washington because the team was in a very, very bad situation; losing games after games... he'll make a great sacramento kings team provided he'll be supported w/ competent players...//

gambit are you saying Jordan was not surrounded by competent players in Washington?? If he cant win with them, he will go winless with the kings. Martin is the only guy that could crack the Wiz starting lineup. The Kings are in a bad situation, but the good thing is...there is only up from here. Get a couple of impact players in the draft, and a good coach to lead them and they could be headed in the right direction. They need a good young coach like Avery Johnson, or an up-and-coming asst. Not some loser retread like Jordan or Westphal who cant keep a job to save their lives.
