Collins denies 76ers talks
This was important enough to Doug Collins that he returned a message from the Daily News at halftime of Tuesday night's NBA playoff game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets. Collins was in Los Angeles serving as the analyst on the TNT telecast. Collins was refuting an Associated Press report that quoted him as saying he had spoken with the 76ers about their coaching job that became available earlier in the week. "They know, I've talked to them like two or three times, they know what I've said," Collins was quoted as saying. "Whatever they want to do, they know where I am if they want to call." That, Collins said, didn't happen. Collins told the Daily News that he had "absolutely not talked to the Sixers," and said the story was "out of line." Earlier in the day, John Langel, Collins' longtime agent, said that he had no knowledge of contact from either side. Last night, Langel said, "It's unlikely that would have occurred without my knowledge." The Sixers' job became available when Tony DiLeo - the in-season replacement for the fired Maurice Cheeks - withdrew his name from consideration.

Avery Johson deserves some consideration. His emphasis on defense would work well with this young, aggressive team. His prior experiences with Duncan and Nowitzki would help in making the most use of Elton Brand's game. And the fact that he's played and coached in the Finals brings some crediblity.

You have a nice broadcasting job - why would you leave to deal with arrogant NBA players attitude? I mean coaching wouldn't change the world - why go for stress at this stage of your life... stay in the booth!

Collins does not know what he want to do. If he would come out and say "I want to coach, seriously" someone will probably give him a job.

Doug Collins doesn't have the mentality to be a coach...real coaches don't cry like a baby on the sidelines when his team wins a meaningless game. I say stay in the booth Doug!!
