Indians GM sticking with Wedge

07:21 AM ET 05.13 | General Manager Mark Shapiro admits things are bad with the Indians, but not bad enough to fire manager Eric Wedge. "What I can tell you is that I believe no one cares more about these players or this organization than Eric Wedge," Shapiro said before Tuesday night's game against the Chicago White Sox. "I feel strongly that he's making every effort to move this in a positive direction." What if the Indians are still in last place in the American League Central in June or July? "I'm not thinking about June and July," Shapiro said. "I don't have the luxury. We've got to think about May and tonight and tomorrow night. "What makes players, coaches and managers successful is taking it one day at a time. Right now, I feel the answers are here with Eric, this coaching staff and these players." Wedge took responsibility for the Tribe's poor start Monday. Said Shapiro: "Responsibility is shared. Accountability rests with me."

I hope someone at least told him to get LaPorta in there full-time ...

Eric Wedge is a standup guy, and really places emphasis on playing the game the right way and using good character people. Most people will not remember the Milton Bradley incident, as there are so many, but Bradley clashed with Wedge during a spring training game and essentially left the park and went home. Within that week he was traded to the Dodgers.

I really like the players the Tribe has right now. But for whatever reason, things are not clicking. I know in sports Coaches/Managers are paid to win and that is the bottom line. But I really wanted to see Wedge have success.

IMHO, which mind you I watch my team every night on MLB Extra Innings...If any coach should be let go it should NOT be Wedge. It should be Carl Willis the pitching coach. I can't believe he hasn't lost 10 pounds already this season with all his trips to the mound. Offensively, maybe someone should start looking at Derek Shelton as well. Other than Martinez and Choo and here as of late Cabrera, the team can't seem to stay consistent at the plate either. Sizemore looks dismal as the leadoff hitter, Peralta looks like a AA player at best (Except the last couple of games). The manager is doing all he can but if his pitchers are a bunch of head cases and his batters look like little leaguers there isn't a whole lot he can do. I mean come on...the last 37 innings that Lee has pitched (4 starts), the offense has provided him with 1, ONE RUN!? Give me a break.

Tribe....you may be right. And it seems to the progression when things are not going well to start with the coaches, like hitting or pitching. So I would say if heads roll, it will start with them. I was watching Bruce Drennan's show last nite after the game and he indicated they (Shapiro/Wedge) are thinking of movie Sizemore down to the #3 spot?
