Indiana Pacer Jamaal Tinsley's rush for safety during a 2007 shooting left the team's equipment manager a sitting duck in the back of Tinsley's Rolls-Royce, a new lawsuit says. Trapped in the back seat, Joey Qatato suffered gunshots to both elbows as gunmen opened fire outside the Conrad hotel in Downtown Indianapolis. Qatato's lawsuit against Tinsley and the car's driver seeks to hold them responsible for his injuries. The suit says the back door's lock could only be controlled by the driver, and the men ignored Qatato's pleas as they fled into the hotel lobby.

wow lets help this guy and risk our own lives so we die and can't spend our millions.........what is the equipment manager doing hanging out with Jamaal Tinsley at 3am?

May 14, 2009  07:54 AM ET

damn that f***ed up just left him there. damn

May 14, 2009  08:18 AM ET

I guess it's a good thing he didn't settle on any buyout, he's gonna need every penny of contract. And who shoots a Rolls? Thats jus nasty.

May 14, 2009  08:32 AM ET

At least Tinsley is still getting paid but the bad part is he is not playing anymore. Sometimes attitude is what brings you down and if you don't learn from it then you continue to go down.

May 14, 2009  08:32 AM ET

Tinsley should have to pay up big time!!!!!!!!!!

May 14, 2009  08:51 AM ET

Is he saying that Tinsley engineered the car so that the guy couldn't get out? This is a stupid suit. It's a Rolls-Royce, he should sue them for how they make their limos. You can't sue someone for running for their life!

May 14, 2009  09:02 AM ET

I'm gonna side with tinseys side on this one
- when someone is shooting at you- I highly doubt
that the first thing on their minds was that the door could
only be opened from the front-

Now- this doesn't absolve tinsely for bringing this whole thing
on himself by being a moron- but - if someones shooting at me
first thing I do is RUN in the opposite direction

May 14, 2009  09:26 AM ET

Gunshots to both elbows that must really suck.

He left him to die. Men don't do that. If he's good enough to hang with he's good enough to cover his back.

That may be the stupidist comment I'm going to read today. Almost every car produced in the world today is engineered with child locks in the back doors. Are you that retarded?

Curious to know why is this now coming to light after 2 years but while part of me agrees with bronxbomb that the right thing to do is to protect your peoples in that situation, honestly I think jgb is right on.

You getting shot at. You going to panic and look to save yourself. It ain't right to leave your peoples hanging but it's a natural human reaction.

I'm not a Tinsley fan, but I agree. Flying bullets have a tendency to cloud rational thinking.

He didn't leave him to die. He ran to save his own life!

Unless it was one of our kids, you and I would do the same...period!

May 14, 2009  10:33 AM ET

Just as lil kids know what to expect at Michael Jackson's house so should an equipment manager that hangs with an NBA thug in a rolls royce at 3 in the morning... suck it up!

Thank you-

Again- Tinsley is ABSOLUTLEY a moron
and shouldn't have been in the situation in the first place
- and judging by his character issues >
I'm sure he wouldn't even try to SAVE him......
but you're talking about INTENTIONALLY leaving him in a locked car?
- I just don't buy it

Shortly after 3 a.m........

Read the above post-

you really think he 'locked' the guy in the backseat ?
- the equipment manager shouldn't have been there either
he made his OWN choice to roll with tinsely

May 14, 2009  11:17 AM ET

Ahhh the Pacers..... like Mel Simon would say, Bad press is good press and boy do we get a lot of good press here. terrible team, terrible attendance, terrible players.

May 14, 2009  12:25 PM ET

Tinsley is a coward, pure and simple. Another gangsta wanna be who doesn't have the stones to walk the talk.

May 14, 2009  12:46 PM ET

With the amount of money this guy makes, he couldn't bullet-proof his rides? Considering the fact he had to have known there's always a bulls-eye on the back of a rich black brotha in the company of gangstas, he simply perpetuated the "stupid, rich black brotha" racial profile.

And kids idolize this ridiculous, irresponsible behavior of sports superstars just to earn "street credibility".

Way to go, Jamaal!

I'm speaking from a very naive, broke, middle class white point of view here but...

If someone offered me 10 million dollars and all I basically had to do was oh...not die...I would live like a Fransiscan monk. Call me crazy, but I like 10 million and I like not dying. I would do whatever they asked me to do in order to accomplish those two things. If my homeys don't like it because I'm not keepin' it real, then my homeys...I wish you well in your future endeavors.
