08:34 AM ET 05.14 | Defending series champion Jimmie Johnson said the racing has become more aggressive lately. "If you look at the races that we've had from Talladega to Richmond to Darlington, they're all tough races where there's a lot of side-by-side action, and it's easy to raise tempers and have situations develop that upset you, " he said. "Track position ... is everything. You have to fight so hard. You can't just give up positions any more because you'll never get them back. Everybody is fighting extremely hard to keep their spot. Guys trying to pass have to fight that much harder to get by and frustration starts to come up. "

There is a little bit more desperation than there use to be.
They all see that it is not good for the economy and if they do not do well and lose their current rides which in it self is bad there may not be another team waiting to pick them up.
Not to mention that some have said that they would retire if they did not improve and really did not mean it and want to do better so it does not look as bad when they renege at the end of the year ( hmmmm not sure who that would be )

Side by side racing??? I must have missed that. When did that happen?

May 14, 2009  09:00 AM ET

The only side by side action happening at the race tracks this year is DW and Hammond spooning each other.

Hmmm....I always thought it was supposed to be tough to win! Aggressiveness is something that SHOULD come into play all the time. Otherwise racing gets boring and thats really what fans come to see. The best car may not win the race, but unless a driver is aggressive (at the right time) you should never win a race. And the good Lord knows, we don't see enough truly serious and aggressive drivers each and everyweek.

To me the more aggressive the better.. Bring it on!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I will watch more of the race instead of finding something else to do when they are following each other around the track!

Umm, isn't that racing is about?

Younger, more aggressive drivers combined with a car that can be a handful to drive could the culprit.

Personally I get a kick of how Kyle Busch acts when someone else races him like that.
I have sean smaller poop ledges with his bottom lip so far out for birds to poop on.
The way the cars are now there is not much side by side racing and passing looks to be impossible.
We are back to NASCAR not giving the drivers a car they can play with enough to make it race able.
I am all for the lesser teams being able to race and they should but at same time the cars should be passable with the technology we have now and it is fully in NASCAR's lap for lap of true racing.
A faster car should be able to pass a slower car without worrying about crashing both cars because the are drivable

Now this is funny!!!!!! I see I am not the only one who dislikes PeeWee Busch!!!

I must have missed that side by side racing.. probably when Fox went to commercial

May 14, 2009  11:48 AM ET

kodiak.. the "shrub" sure is a pouter aint he.... was hilarious after the Nationwide race,, camera followed him all the way to the hauler but nobody put a mic in his face. I was (sarcasm) broken hearted.

May 14, 2009  11:54 AM ET

OK FN today you got nothing.

May 14, 2009  11:57 AM ET

I saw that Nationwide race and he was just short of running.
If was extremely sad to see a adult act that way or at least a child trying to act like a grown up.
Like all Fox shows they sure did not push it and let him off the hook extremely easy and treated him with kid gloves as a Toyota driver I believe.
If it was a Detroit 3 driver they would have rode him to the ends of the earth. Got to love unbiased reporting.

May 14, 2009  12:12 PM ET

kodiak--the mistake in your comment was calling Kyle an adult.. LOL He acts like he is 16 .....He is not grown up at all yet!!

May 14, 2009  12:14 PM ET

LOL ok then he is almost acting his age then.

May 14, 2009  12:16 PM ET

Kodiak: I don't understand your abhorrence with Toyota... you keep talking about the "Detroit 3" or the "Big 3" as if they were something meaningful. I remember back in the 50's when GM and Fisher Body, Ford Engine Plant, etc workers in the Cleveland area were pompus as hell ......
the emplyees were "set for life" and ****....just buy the damned cars sucker!

Now they're all choking on the vine, "and the beat goes on" Laadie daadie da!

QUOTE(#20):

the kid is 23 years old, trouble comprehending? TWENTY-THREE years old, what exactly were you doing at 23, ending poverty, stopping the war on drugs, missionary, oh' wait probably keg stands, and a whole lot worse. give it a rest. let me guess while you jr. fans are watching him toil in mediocrity, around 20-25, the only other thing on your mind is hoping KB doesn't win, or if he will crash? pathetic.

Yeah - so. Thats how I get my enjoyment.....yes sir
