A new legal filing by the NHL offers the most complete look yet at the showdown now brewing in Bankruptcy Court, which could determine whether the Valley keeps its hockey team or says goodbye. The league says it was in the midst of negotiating to keep the Coyotes in Glendale just days before the bankruptcy filing. The pleadings filed by the NHL just before midnight Wednesday also reveal new details: NHL lawyers indicated Glendale may have been prepared to offer new concessions to a new owner, something the city disputes.

From that picture it looks like the poison dwarf's staff is in his crack. Sorry for that visual......:)

sounds like the league is grasping at straws...

The City of Glendale has 750 million reasons why they may have said that...which were surely included in their own recent filing with the courts.

Did they snap this picture just as he learned his wife and Rick Tochett were gambling all his money away while having an affair?

Absolutely. They WILL have to make concessions to keep the team. Seriously, can they find a new tenant for their arena in today's economy - especially in AZ. Phoenix has NBA, MLB, Arena Football and NFL already. All of them doing quite well financially. What can they put in that arena? Indoor soccer?

Maybe if the Poison Dwarf actually spent time trying to improve this League instead of putting teams in the desert we as fans would be better off.

I don't think that it could ever be said that Bettman isn't, 'trying'...

So, the NHL is so rich they they're turning down money to keep a team in the desert? That must be how things are going, because we have 32 strong financial teams...yes indeedy. Aside from Columbus and Colorado...are there really any of the newer expansion teams doing ok? Atlanta, Nashville, and both Florida ones I don't think are doing so hot. Obviously Phoenix isn't, but everyone except Gary realizes this.

Sticking with the movie theme, LGP: Being in FN means never having to say you're sorry.....

Well, that's because we get to gang up on the weaker one's, like Wayne here.

Colorado was a relocation from Quebec. Columbus was an expansion franchise.

Dallas, San Jose, Minnesota, Ottawa?

I love the NHL, but they need to realize there are certain markets were hockey will not catch on. Arizona is one of those areas. People tend to like the sports their kids play or have their kids play the sports they like. How many hockey rinks are there in the American Southwest? They are not practical, they would cost a fortune to maintain in that climate.

The NHL needs to focus on markets that already love the sport and markets that could potentially become hockey fans. First of all the Coyotes need to move the Hamilton. If a city wants it and can support it then it should be there and not arbitrarily forced on a market that doesn't want it.

Next the Atlanta Thrashers should be moved to another city that wants them, perhaps Quebec City or Winnepeg. The NHL should then consider the viability of teams like the Tampa Bay Lighting, New York Islanders, and Nashville Predators. The NHL should consider small markets that have die hard hockey fans, like the ones i mentioned above, but include Hartford. Also they should consider northern cities that are untapped but are in climates that would allow for growing youth hockey along with relatively large markets such as Indianapolis, Seattle, London(canada), or maybe even Halifax. The Canadians love hockey, why not have teams there were you are guarenteed to sell tickets, albeit at a discounted price(see canadian dollar), rather than take a chance for a little more money but without any guarentee that it will catch on.

Another thing the NHL should consider, that is blasphamous in most areas, is consider expanded the NHL across the Atlantic. There are large markets and big bucks to be had. I don't know how it would work logistically, but it should be considered at very least.

Ice in Desert = FAIL!!!!! I'd say it's common sense but I guess everyone is out to prove common sense wrong - Good luck with that

It is sad the Wayne Gretzky has sullied his reputation with this poorly thought out franchise. It will never happen, but the NHL should fold 4 to 6 teams. That would result in more classic rivalry and worth watching match-ups. Eliminating those teams would also raise the level of overall play. There are too many teams in the league now that are one line deep.

I'm not sure about "4 to 6" teams. I think the league would be just fine with 16 teams...8 in Canada (Leafs and one other Southern Ontario team, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg), and 8 in the US (Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, LA (one team in California- not three) New York, Pittsburgh, St. Louis would be my choices)...contraction will never happen though.

Zerosk1

Dallas = 2 Cup trips. 1 Cup. better attendance than Edmonton, Colorado, Boston, Pittsburgh...Islanders. Its the product you put on the ice the matters. If Phoenix had won some playoff games and took the franchise seriously it wouldn't matter, the base builds. Look, Carolina and Tampa filled their stadium's because they either had or have owners that care about the game.

Good product typically means great reward this is regardless of whether or not your country is frozen half the year.

I guess your common sense = FAIL.
