Kings leaning toward Griffin
The Kings are hoping to have good reason to clang those cowbells again by landing the top pick in the draft lottery. Sacramento has the best odds (25 percent) of landing the No. 1 pick, which would certainly mean the arrival of heralded Oklahoma power forward Blake Griffin. For good luck, the Kings are sending former star Chris Webber to represent them at the lottery in Secaucus, N.J. The draft class is led by the Karl Malone-like Griffin, and everyone else is a distant second. But even if the Kings acquire the top pick, expect them to do their due diligence by working out a select group of prospects that could include Spain guard Ricky Rubio, Connecticut center Hasheem Thabeet, Arizona State swingman James Harden, and Arizona forward Jordan Hill.

If I were the kings- I'd trade the pick for multiple players-
even if the get BG- they are not winning or even competing
anytime soon......Their roster is simply BAD.
If they could move down a few picks and get back say a decent
player, a prospect & a couple draft picks- well then they're at least starting to get back on the right track...
I think BG will be a real good player in the NBA- but bigs coming
out of college ALWAYS struggle...no matter who it is-

I totally agree with you JGB. I think they should swing a deal with the Thunder. Oklahoma city will draft high as well and they have several draft picks and up and coming players that the kings can develop.
It's only natural for the Thunder and Kings to help each other. Problem is the Kings are run by the Aloofs - they don't do much.

It seems the Kings have more sense than the Knicks. Blake Griffin is the pick you do not trade. Barring injury, he's a can't-miss proposition. He's not a "could be"; he's a "will be". The Kings are better off drafting him and trading one of their other bigs - Jason Thompson or Spencer Hawes. Both those guys have potential and trade value. The Kings should use one of them to bring in a young franchise point guard to develop with Griffin and Martin.

Griffin will go to Sacramento and be just like Australia--everyone knows it's down there, but nobody gives a damn.

I guess if he presents such great potential, a team should get him. But don't they have Jason Thompson at F who played rather decently for a rookie and Hawes at F/C who is a scorer with range just like Brad Miller but with shot blocking? Does it mean Thompson will be on the block if they take Griffin? Teams should look at this guy then. To me, Kings should be looking to get a solid coach, and a point guard upgrade on Udrih. Whatever happens though, they wont' be ringing those annoying cowbells any time soon.

At least it is often easier to trade an NBA first overall draft pick compared to the NFL. It might make more sense to trade it for multiple picks and players to help rebuild. I didn't watch much college ball this past season so I have no idea if this guy is a franchsise player to build around or if he is just likely to be a really good piece of the puzzle.

The Kings also have Houston's first round pick from the Artest trade. After drafting Griffin, they could use that pick on a point guard later in the draft.

BG is going to be a solid NBA player- a classic 4
he got legit 6' 9-10 size, already has good strength & has VERY nice hands
That being said- he played against boys in college & will need to get stronger, he has to work on his offensive game ( as ALL bigs do)
I think also what will make him succeed is he seems to have a
pretty good head on his shoulders.
BUT- he ain't a LBJ-type that you simply hand the keys to your
franchise over to....he NEEDS pieces around him to be successful

Griffin to the kings adds another player to the roster that would be it, if they win more than 30 games I would be shocked!

I think they should go with Rubio actually. I know thats not popular, but I like the kid alot. I watched a couple of his euro games on NBA TV and he is pretty impressive. I know that was against euro guys but still....Jennings was over there, and he sucked but people still have him in the top ten for some crazy reason. Maybe if they could set up a trade to the late teens so they could at least get Ty Lawson I would be with that. But there frontcourt is young and pretty good. I'm not sold on Griffin. If he wasnt so athletic, he would be Mark Madsen. He cant shoot, barely dribble, and very turnover prone. With a good PG he could be good, but the Kings PG situation might be the worst in the league. They should draft what they need most. If they can get Rubio, or Lawson, then get Sam Young or even better a Terrence Williams to play SF (with Houston's first rd pick) that would give them a nice young starting lineup going forward.
1. Rubio/Lawson 2. Martin 3. Williams/Young 4. Thompson 5. Hawes
Not exactly an allstar lineup, but it would be one of the best young lineups to give us few Kings fans a little hope for the future.

Kings should select Thabeet and trade Hawes. Hard to find agile guys>7', as witnessed by Hawes. The guy couldn't get off the ground with rockets attached to his butt.Thompson has shown he can be a good power forward in the league, especially after he matures a little more. However, the Maloof's are set in getting the Kings out of Sac and to Vegas, so likely they will sabotage this pick as well and sign a mediocre coach as well.

I'm looking forward for the lottery tonight; the Kings should select Griffin even if they do not need another PF.
