GMs: No way Sixers hire Collins

Two GMs who have worked with Doug Collins say there's no way that the Sixers will hire him, unless team prez Eddie Stefanski is under orders to win now. "There's high-maintenance guys, low-maintenance guys and no-maintenance guys, and Doug is a high-maintenance guy, even if he's a great teacher and near-brilliant," said one GM. "You have to manage Doug, every day."

lol....he's high maintenance ?
I would've just said- look at his career record & that he hasn't won
a playoff series since the 1980's..........

..."even if he's a great teacher and near-brilliant," Doug Collins has never been given the tools to do the job. Unfortunately, today's player has to be handled with kid gloves. He's better off at the network.

I agree with that. I think he's contributed more to the game as an analyst than a coach. I know I'm in the minority, but I think he's one of the best analysts in the game. But not as good as Hubie Brown.

What? Collins can make a team win now but no way anyone will hire him??
Oxymoronic statement. If he can make a team win now, can't he make it win later? Duh.

How does a GM handle a "high maintenance" coach? Call him everyday to assure him that he still has a job and is still loved? Hahaha

Collins' on-air apology for this whole fiasco was pathetic. The NBA must have made him do it to avoid any tampering issues.

One thing DOug usually does is pave the way for the next coach to win big. Doug plants the seed.. he just can't tend the garden. The bulls wouldn't have gotten where they did without Doug playing his role.. and Detroit got much better after he was coach.. as did Washington.. Doug just grates on guys after a while.. but they seem to be better players for having played for him..
