Machida wants Lesnar

10:54 AM ET 05.17 | Lyoto Machida's eyes are fully set on taking away the UFC light-heavyweight crown from Rashad Evans on May 23, but somewhere down the line, he'd like to entertain an even bigger challenge -- Brock Lesnar. He's not looking to abandon his 205-pound weight class. Instead, he likes the idea of fighting Lesnar for the challenge. "My focus, for sure, is on my division now, later is later," Machida recently told TATAME. "Maybe a fight against Brock Lesnar. He's a huge guy, showed himself [as someone who is] very aggressive and strong, who knows if one day we can fight. I respect him as a fighter, he's very strong, but I'm a professional and I'd like to test myself." It's as far-fetched of a matchup as any, but it's certainly one interesting to discuss.

He's getting a little ahead of himself. This type of arrogance and lack of focus on the current objective will doom him to lose against Evans. One fight at a time Machida.

Machida isn't some arrogant wiseass. He certainly isn't a unfocused, undisciplined idiot. His undefeated streak should tell you that by now.
The Lesnar thing is just some future challenge he'd like to do. Commenting on it means nothing on his upcoming Evans bout.

I think Machida will easily beat Rashad, who is a paper champion. I also think he can and will beat Lesnar for the heavyweight champion. Machida is the best mma fighter and is just starting to find his stride. Even though machida is not a Christian name.

A paper champion? Do you even know what that term means? It may apply to Frank Mir, who defeated an interim champion for his title. It may apply to Brock Lesnar, who beat an old man who had basically been given the heavyweight title. But Rashad Evans, who KO'd a dominant former champion, then KO'd the current champion, is the definition of a legit, linear champion. Just because you don't like the fighter doesn't mean he's not as good as he is.
Machida is the best MMA fighter despite his non-Christian name? Why did I even bother replying to you?

Machida would be giving up like 50-60 pounds to Lesnar, who has great takedowns. I don't think Machida would have any chance on the ground, and the fight would definitely end up there. It would be a hammer-fist fiesta I think.

there is no way Machida could beat Lesnar, Lesnar is to big and too strong if Lesnar lost 50 pounds of muscle Machida would kill him, but that about it.

Rashad Evans has been talking about how he wants to fight Anderson Silva, so dont give us some BS about Machida getting ahead of himself. Evans is a great fighter...so is Machida...This is gonna be anyone's fight. Cant wait!

Both Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida would get their heads pounded in by Brock Lesnar. The ONLY chance they would have is if Lesnar has a glass jaw and they pop him as he is coming in to slam them. Lesnar is too big for any light heavyweight to handle. However, there are a few Heavyweights that could prevent his takedown temporarily and test that chin. Remember he hasnt been smashed by an overhand right yet....Im sure that Kongo, Carwin, Gonzaga could stay up with him some and throw some blows....Kongo might chop out his legs with some kicks too. I must digress, because Mir might just break his leg this time around...like he broke Sylvias are

Although I agree with you on principle (that Rashard is NOT a paper champ), he did beat the iceman ONLY because he got lucky and got one punch right on the button. Because if you saw the fight up to that second, Rashard was losing the fight.
On the topic though, I think it would be VERY interesting fight. Lyoto Machida is a great technitian. Brock Lesnar is raw power, but is just brute force. That fight would be VERY good. specially if both are still at the top of their game...

I saw an interesting video interview with Wanderlei Silva and he talked about lucky punches. He doesn't believe in them and neither do I. Wanderlei says that as a professional fighter you train to exploit mistakes. So there is no such thing as a lucky punch. Rashard was timing Chuck and when he threw a lazy upper cut Rashard capitalized. I think it's disrespectful to Chuck and Rashard to call it a lucky punch there both professionals and understand that you make your own luck in the fight game. ;

Frank Mir a paper champion? Are you kidding me? He HELD the belt before his motorcycle accident doing things like breaking Tim Sylvia's arm...the only reason any of these other boneheads are even considered to hold part of his crown is because it took him so long to convalesce. Go back a few years and you would see a guy long on talent and short on cardio and discipline. Take a look at him now and you see a very different fighter. Not to mention that he happens to be the smartest, most cerebral fighter to EVER step in the cage. Do your research before you make a comment like that. Paper champion? Come on.
