With Von Wafer a free agent again, he said he hopes to be done seeking a new home, preferring to stick with the Rockets, his fifth team in four NBA seasons. "I hope I'll be back," Wafer said. "I love Houston, I love this organization. They gave me a chance, so I'd love to be back." Wafer had by far his most productive NBA season, averaging 9.7 points (his previous best was an average of 1.7 points) on 44.7 percent shooting.

Who???

May 18, 2009  08:19 AM ET

Wafer is like JR Smith. Instant offense w/ unlimited range. He is athletic and can really take it to the hole. He will also be coveted by many teams. Houston will have some problem in the summer w/ some decision making on some players. I wonder if Landry is also a free agent?

Wafer is like JR-Smith-lite, which is about as desirable in my eyes as Tecate Light.

Agreed DYnamic

I don't know- I don't see the smith comparison at all-
He's a young guy that proved that he's a legit NBA 2 guard
He's not great- but you can absolutely win with him on the floor
I agree with Guam- he'll have LOTS of interest around the
league- no one is giving him major $$ or anything- but he
certainly will have options

I kinda feel bad for Houston- they have SO many player issues

May 18, 2009  09:22 AM ET

hes showing some staying power in the league....

He just reminds too much of Kareem Rush or something talented backup 2 guard (starter on a weak team) - but (going off his tirade that got him tossed in game 2 and general demeanor going back to his days in LA) he seems to think he's way better than he is which detracts big time...

He may turn out to be good but I say sign at your own risk. It seemed to me his team often had a - when he was on the floor.

May 18, 2009  09:29 AM ET

Yeah his team was -8 in the playoffs with him on the floor.

May 18, 2009  09:30 AM ET

JR Smith on the other hand is +122

LOL my thoughts exactly. Just a scrub who got some good playing time in Houston and made a few threes. Otherthan that, who cares where he goes?

May 18, 2009  09:37 AM ET

LMAO!!!!!! this is gonna be the starting 2 guard for a champioship contender?!

that's all I'm saying- he ain't kobe
but he certainly can play ball....
and he's a FA- which means teams will show interest

May 18, 2009  09:49 AM ET

Hmmm-his "fifth team in 4 NBA seasons." Sounds like a stud.

Good points.

If he can get his act together he can be a decent player. Needs to know his role. Attitude is a big factor here.

Houston is a good fit for him bringing some offense in place of Battier but as you alluded I guess they probably won't be able to bring him back.

Ridiculous comparison

absolutely-
look at a guy like eddie house -
if you can put points on the board- you'll always find a home
IF you have the head and a good reputation

They say it's a ridiculous comparison between JR and Von but these 2 guys almost have the same set of skills. Wafer was not given a chance until this year and JR was always doubted by coaches. Wafer can take it to the hole and that's the difference between Eddie House and him.

no landry isnt a free agent. The free agents are Von Wafer, Ron Artest and Dikembe Mutombo (He retired) but artest and von wafer will both return.

I think you are a bit right but Smith is the same age as Von Wafer and has proven he can be a very good player night in and night out on both ends.

Von Wafer may never become that consistent threat and he still has a bad attitude. JR was always doubted by coaches but still got PT because his talent is far and above Von Wafer.

JR came straight from high school so he had more time to blossom in the pros. The only reason JR is getting the credit he deserves now is because Chauncey came along and made Denver a truly an all around team that functions like a well oiled machine. JR was always scoring coming of the bench but didn't get the recognition because they were losing and they had AI and Melo together. Don't you ever notice that everytime JR comes in, Denver would either come back or they start seperating from the opponent. The guy is unguardable and everything he puts up seems to go in.
