Luongo to Flyers?

Another trade rumor has the Flyers interested in obtaining goaltender Roberto Luongo and perhaps the rights to UFA defenseman Mattias Ohlund from the Vancouver Canucks for a similar package, although the Canucks are pushing hard for Jeff Carter. Luongo is entering the final year of a contract that carries a $6.75 cap hit, while Ohlund is likely to fetch $5 million in the open market.

If they make this deal, the Flyers will have good goaltending for the first time since Pelle Lindbergh.

I'd hate to see Jeff Carter go, but the Flyers are deep at forward and they need a goalie. Luongo would be well worth it.

May 18, 2009  08:15 AM ET

The Canucks would never make that deal.

Pure ****.

May 18, 2009  08:26 AM ET

yes we need a goaltender. but not for carter.we are deep at forward and there have to be other options such as amery

May 18, 2009  08:28 AM ET

Carter is overrated. Do it now.

May 18, 2009  08:34 AM ET

No way this trade is going to happen

May 18, 2009  08:37 AM ET

The Flyers would never make this deal. Does anyone really think they'd trade Carter?

May 18, 2009  08:39 AM ET

how is 40+goals at age 23 overated

May 18, 2009  09:08 AM ET

I don't see the Canucks making this deal either, but stranger things have happened.

I agree. The only guys that would make that trade are Sather and Milbury

LOL... But Milbury already traded Luongo because he was so enamored with Oleg Kvasha.

There is no way Holmgren is stupid enough to let go of both Carter AND Giroux in the same deal....let alone seperate ones....Those two would be on the short list of untouchables....

Richards, Parent, Coburn, Giroux, Carter, Sbisa, Van Riemsdyk, and Timonen....are about all I have on the "untouchables" list.....

Everyone else is expendable for the right deal....

The Flyers have to get a goalie....It's imperative...

Precisely. We are talking about Luongo here. No way the Canucks give him up for anything lesss than top tier players. They sure as hell aren't going to trade Luongo for Briere and a prospect! Keep dreaming Philly.

Now Carter and Giroux for Luongo is a posssibility, but Ohlund too? T&R needs to stop taking the hallucinagens in the morning.

No offense PhillyMike, but if you want a top notch goalie, at least one of those "untouchables" will have to go, particularly for Luongo.

May 18, 2009  10:44 AM ET

I don't think Vancouver will trade Luongo....that's why I don't believe this would even be a rumor...

May 18, 2009  10:55 AM ET

I could see Philly making a run at Giguere before they would even attempt a run at Luongo....

LMAO.

I expect to see Luongo sign a deal this summer that will keep him in Van City for the rest of his career. The Flyers aren't going to trade Richards for him, and the 'nucks don't need Coburn all that badly, as they are fairly deep on D. So, Carter has to be the logical major component going to Vancouver if this is to go through. And to reiterate what LGP said to PhillyMike - you don't get the best goalie in the world for scraps (unless you're Dave Nonis making a trade with mike Keenan I guess), and Gillis isn't going to do Philly two favours by trading them Luongo and taking Briere's contract off their hands. This trade doesn't go through without 2 of your "untouchables" headed the other way. Sbisa? Van Reimsdyk? Giroux? If you make your whole team untouchable, you can't make trades, chum. You named 2 lines worth of untouchables from a team that didn't make it out of the first round of the playoffs...keep perspective of the guys you make untouchable. I would especially throw JVR into the mix on this trade if I could, because he is soft as pudding pie and does not look like he will be a star in the NHL until he gets over it.
