Mavs may lose Bass

The Mavs want to bring Brandon Bass back -- at a reasonable price, perhaps in the $3 million per year range -- and Bass said last week that he wants to be here. However, Bass also acknowledged that he would like to be a starter. His playoff performance increases the odds that a team will make him an offer to be a starter and make more money than the Mavs want to pay him.

Bass is an ok player but he is most effective off the bench

judging from previous 3 mil+ per year players have got and who they are eg willie green, kevin Ollie, and even Diop/mid level exception players.......

Bass should probably be inline for over 3 mill per year.

I think Bass has earned a payday. If Dallas doesn't give it to him, somebody else will. If Kwame Brown is worth $4 million...

Bass is gone. He played his way out of Dallas in a very good way. This guy is different from others who got big contracts and failed. Bass works really hard and continue to improve. He deserves to be in a starting line up. His defense is pretty good. I just can't believe they didn't use him more in the Denver series. Ericka didn't give them anything while Bass was a plus when he came in. This young man is truly a humble kid which will make him succeed more in life.

sha na na nah, sha na na nah, hey goodbye.

May 19, 2009  09:00 AM ET

I think he's a nice player as most have said above- but he's still
a 'role' guy....and you absolutely cannot START the off-season
worrying about these type players....or else you lose any wiggle
room you may have to sign front-line starters.

Dallas needs to figure out where the team is going...
are they keeping the 'core' there or are tehy moving forward ?

May 19, 2009  09:06 AM ET

Solid player off that bench who knows his role. For $3 mill a season he should be able to get that somewhere.

May 19, 2009  10:25 AM ET

I hope ATL can sign Bass. We need a hard nosed player like that off the bench.....oh 28 other teams might want the same LOL

May 19, 2009  10:30 AM ET

Bass: great role player off the bench with good defense, rebounding and a decent offensive game plus he knows his role and works hard...3 million a year is a good deal for any team...

Bass and Dirk are very good friends. It's best they resign hmim if they want Dirk to be happy.

total BS-
they might be buds- but Dirk is not that type of guy to make 'demands'

I agree. Mavs are already paying $70 mil already with no Kidd or Bass, I really don't get the salary cap sometimes how can they possibly resign these two. If they are restricted I get it, where can you go to find out if they are or not?

May 19, 2009  12:38 PM ET

OKC and Detroit under the cap + both looking to build their frontline = payday for Bass.

I don't see Dumars over paying for Bass just because he has the cap space.

OKC could sign him. He has played in OKC before as a Hornet and he kinda likes it there. It will be up to Bass. If he wants to get paid then he has to take the highest offer and I have a feeling Mavs will not be able to match the highest offer.

What's up, Here are a couple resources I use to keep up to date on Free agents & Salaries.

For salaries I use, cause its always updated pretty well

http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm

For Free Agents info & who is available I use a couple, but this ESPN site is the easiest on the eyes.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgents-09-10

Now this is the "ABSOLUTE" explanation on anything regarding Salary Cap. It seems like a lot, but it explains "EVERYTHING" without the legal terminology. It's actually pretty interesting.

Free Agency is #36
