Roy denies Avs offer

Well, Patrick Roy is now denying he has received any offer from the Avalanche, telling the french language website SRC.ca "I was never made any offer. Anyway, I'm not commenting." Maybe this is a semantics thing right now, but all I can tell you is an awful lot of people around Roy are saying a job with the Avs - coach or GM or maybe even both - is his if he wants it. Sigh...obviously, this story has been very bizarre from the start. The Avs fire their GM the day after the season, but not the coach. Nearly a month later, Patrick Roy flies into town and meets with Pierre Lacroix, but Roy has said he only wants to be a coach going forward - not just a "paper pusher" in the front office.

I don't see why he wouldn't take the job.Arrogance loves a pedestal.

Favre denies comeback. Clemens denies everything....I could really go on for a while. Point is Roy saying anything doesn't mean anything.

He doesn't want to push paper, he just wants to rip doors off of their hinges and threaten his wife...What a great choice to lead a team!!

Does T&R know something that we don't? They are yet to post a pic of Roy wearing an Avalanche jersey while he is up for this coaching position.

wasnt he coaching a youth team where he encouraged a culture of violence which lead to his son attacking an opposing player with a stick to the head during intermission??? now the avs want him??

I believe the short bus crashed in front of the building so out of sympathy, they just hired everyone who got off the bus.

I am getting so sick of looking at Patrick Roy, and every week there is a T&N/headline about his job prospects.

For that matter T&N is really struggling for things to post/discuss, as of late. *Yawn*

You should have been here for the...GASP...Sundin saga. Horrifying with a capital H.

okay, well 1, obviously they are not going to fire granato if they are in the market for a new gm, because it will be up to the new gm to decide whether to keep the coach or bring in a new guy.

May 19, 2009  12:13 PM ET

Please just go away and coach juniors in hockey....oh wait a minute don't do that either.

May 19, 2009  01:19 PM ET

I TINK HE WOULD BE DA GUY TO GO SIDE BY EACH WITH DAT ODDER GUY JOE SAKIC TO TAKE DE AVALANCHE BACK TO DA PROMISE LAND. No seriously, they should never hire a french goaltender for any job in America. Especially if they are trying to turn it around. he's competitive but he is a goaltender and those guys don't know much about the game except stopping pucks. Roy was good at that but i doubt he can coach at the NHL level.

May 19, 2009  01:27 PM ET

Quite the denial - saying they haven't made an offer to him doesn't mean they didn't discuss his interest in the job. The ol' "I didn't lie" denial if he actually takes the job down the road. It is a drama I am failry over now though - if he wants to be a coach in the Show, he should just take the job. If he doesn't, go back to the Ramparts and let this dog go back to sleep.

The only other thing that could be holding this is up Roy's interest in the job opening in La Belle Province. The Habs are certainly in a better position in terms of roster and, of course, Cap Space, so I would imagine it would be the more desirable position of the two, not taking into account the scrutiny that comes with coaching in Montreal of course.

Things were discussed...not offers were made...yet. End of story.

If they re-name the team the Colorado Roys ..he "might" consider working for them.

May 20, 2009  12:21 AM ET

he wants the Montreal job!! for one simple reason, so that he can bring the cup to Montreal and then be able to say "you needed me in nets AND behind the bench". He would just LOVE to rub it in the presses face if he could do that. it's not rocket science, it's just an ego!
