There aren't many job openings to be an NBA head coach right now, but Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis is interviewing for two of them. Rambis met with Philadelphia 76ers President Ed Stefanski at a Santa Monica hotel Monday and will also interview with the Sacramento Kings at a date to be determined. Other candidates for the Philadelphia job include Dallas assistant Dwane Casey, former Washington head coach Eddie Jordan and Boston assistant Tim Thibodeau. Jordan and Paul Westphal are the leading candidates for the Sacramento job.

He needs to keep sporting the porn stache and the taped glasses. That was a classic look. Did they look at his resume before the hire? you know the same team Phil won 3 titles with Rambis could not even get to the finals. Good luck with that.

I like the idea of Thibodeau. I think he deserves a head coaching job by now. If it's not Eddie Jordan then I am rooting for Thibodeau to get the Sixers job.

Thibodeau should get something this off-season.

Don't have much to say except this: how about doing the current job of coaching the Lakers big men how to defend the paint? Don't tell me now that their defensive coach is also distracted.

Yup, if not Jordan, I too like Thibodeau for Sixers job. He deserves it.

IT doesn't matter who coaches the 76ers. they have elton brand bogging down their payroll.

Um? PJ? George Karl? Doc? Role players often make the best coaches.

Del Harris didn't win with that very same team, and also Phil didn't win a championship every year. Don't hate on Rambis.

Doc cmon now before KG,Allen got there below .500 coach check the stats in Orlando and first year in Boston that was almost all KG,Pierce and the bench and defensive play and a little of Doc's coaching, PJ and George are exceptions but for the most part....

I'd move on if I were Rambis. He keeps hoping that he'll get the head coaching gig of the Lakers someday, but he keeps getting passed up. First Phil Jackson, then Rudy T, then Phil again. From what I hear, teams are very high on him in regards to head coaching jobs. I couldn't blame him if he took an offer.

May 20, 2009  01:26 PM ET

he's certainly put his dues in & sat behind 2 of the best coaches of this era.

I have watched hundreds of Lakers games and every time I see Rambis without his funny glasses my heart sinks. Shouldn't Stern force Rambis to wear those glasses at all times?

Right. If Phil leaves, they'd give that job to Byron Scott, not Rambis.

Agreed. Role players will generally make better coaches than Star players, because they understand the role players better, and that, in some ways, is more important than understanding the 1 or 2 stars. Also, they have less ego problems, and are more ready to listen...
