Doctor cautious with Amare's eye

Amare Stoudemire is not jumping, jogging or biking. The most important functions for the Suns All-Star forward three months after eye surgery are resorbing and regenerating. After suffering a retina detachment that his surgeon believes has never happened to an athlete of his caliber, Stoudemire is enduring a healing process that moves in a stark contrast to how he has sped up and down the court for the Suns. Dr. Pravin Dugel, Stoudemire's surgeon with Retinal Consultants of Arizona, was able to drain thicker pockets of fluid in Stoudemire's eye two weeks ago but there is more to wait on as Dugel follows a cautious approach to the 26-year-old's recovery. The team initially had announced that the surgery would put Stoudemire out for eight weeks, leaving some playoff hope open until Dugel ruled that out two weeks later, saying the recuperation could take months.

Wow, that hurts. The Suns just hope that he will come back 100%. Boxers retire because of detached retina. But they don't come back after 2 or more years if they decide to fight again. He shouldn't rush and needs to make sure that it will be okay to play again.

Agreed - Not worth being blind in one eye just play basketball a little sooner. He is only 26. If I already had millions, I wouldn't risk being blind for a few million more. The last thing this is about is money (for Amare at least), this is about the next 60 years of your life.

Yes he has millions- but he can earn a HUNDRED million with his
next contract......he has absoultely set himself up for life- but
his next one sets his family's family up for life.....

lets not go crazy with the blindness-
if he wears goggles playing it would be next to impossible to
re-injure the eye

Better get some goggles.

The money is important, but for a lot of these guys that play professional sports, sports is all that they no and it will take him actually losing the vision before he completely stop playing. Wilt Chamberlain played with a heart problem, guys retire and unretire because it's in their soul. Michael Jordan use to work out at 12 midnight, most people at that hour of the night are either asleep or banging.

Any time off to rest his knees is good. I think he'll be better off taking next season off because

1. Phoenix aing going nowhere with or without him.
2. He has a major payday coming up - while wrisk getting injured.

He is a Yankee fan.

well its true I mean the suns have been so close so many times from the triple OT game in the 70's to KJ and Chambers to Barkley and Thunder Dan to this recent 3 -4 year run... if I wasn't a Spurs fan I almost would feel sorry for Suns fans and players past, present and most likely future....
