UCLA, Rutgers planning series

In his two months as athletic director, Tim Pernetti's aggressive approach to Rutgers' future football schedules has already paid dividends, with Miami, Penn State and Tulane among the upcoming opponents. But sometimes, as Pernetti has found, timing and luck can be just as important. Those are essentially the reasons Rutgers is in negotiations with UCLA for a home and home series, having exchanged possible dates with the Pac-10 school. It all happened when Pernetti was at the Fiesta Bowl's annual Spring Football Seminar two weeks ago -- an event that draws most of the nation's major college football coaches and athletic directors. Pernetti was returning from a morning workout, accompanied by his wife, when he saw UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel having breakfast with his wife. Pernetti, while an executive at CBS College Sports, hired Neuheisel to do announcing when he was between jobs.

Win. Win. Good for Rutgers. Good for UCLA.

works for me, I love OOC games. Just wish we saw more of them.

Should be fun to watch. Whats the over/under on Pac 10 teams coached by Neuheisel?

VFH, at least the Vols regularly schedule OOCs that carry a pair. ND*, Cal, UCLA... They could stick to Sunbelt teams, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, and FCS teams like some other SEC programs.

Before anybody gets in my kitchen about listing ND, their teams carried some heft not too long ago.

Outside of the vols, I wish the SEC powers would get this kinda scheduling going.

We suck at it (outside of FSU and the occasional UM). Bama scheduled VT, MSU, and PSU.

Tennessee has to, because they have to recruit elsewhere, so they want some exposure in their recruiting areas.

For whatever reason, the Tennessee homegrown football talent is not so great.

Must be all the inbreeding we apparently do.

Memphis has talent but you guys seem to lose on that to Ole Miss, Bama, and Arkie.

I heard Thompson say he was locking Memphis down, then 24hrs later, the highest ranked player in the state (from Memphis) commited to Bama.

Yes, and I grinned so wide that my chapped lips cracked and bled. Arrogant boasting immediately deflated by cold reality... gotta love it.

On Bruinsnation.com last week the lame-o Bruins were so excited that while they are projected to finish 7th in the Pac-10 some experts thought they could finish as high as 4th. Now that's something to get really excited about. I bet they haven't been this excited since they fired the black guy and got a white coach in there to show 'em how it's done. Only in racist Bruin land is 4-8 better than 7-6. Piece of mind, even for racists, is priceless.

People in Memphis seem to hate Knoxville and UT. Plus they're closer to all those other schools, so we miss out. Sucks too cause you're right, that's where just about any talent from Tennessee comes from.

UT plays the mighty Hilltoppers in the season opener, btw. We also host Ohio as a nice recovery from the Florida game.

A public invite, how can I say no?

Hey, Ohio U has a great band, only reason i go watch 'em play (That and Athens, OH is second only to Mo-Town WV in partying). Amazing! Look up "The Marching 110" sometime.
