New Bulls GM wants to re-sign Gordon

Gar Forman's biggest task will be trying to re-sign shooting guard Ben Gordon. ''We like Ben,'' Forman said. ''Ben's a key, key component to our team. He's our kind of guy. He's got great makeup and character and a great work ethic, and obviously he's a very talented player. ''So our goal is to re-sign Ben Gordon. In the conversations that we've had, I think Ben wants to stay in Chicago and be with the Bulls. There are still a lot of steps until we get to that point in July, but that's certainly one of our goals.'' Forman handled most of the negotiations with Gordon's agent, Raymond Brothers, the previous two summers without success, but he doesn't believe the failure to reach an agreement on a long-term deal will affect this summer's talks.

No doubt Ben Gordon was wicked in the Play-offs.......but a Leopard can't change it's spots....he is a liability on Defense and will always be prone to taking bad shots. Still he is one of the best scorers in the league and the Bulls need him.

May 22, 2009  08:02 AM ET

LISTEN TO ME!!!! TRADE HIM IN THE DRAFT!!!! THERE ARE SOME DIAMONDS IN THERE!!!! SELL HIGH!!!!! LISTEN TO ME WHO EVER IS IN CHARGE OF THE BULLS

May 22, 2009  08:12 AM ET

The Bulls need a 2 guard who can hit the 3, whether its Ben or whoever, they need someone to complement Rose.

May 22, 2009  08:18 AM ET

I would like to have Gordon back at a reasonable price but you can't give him huge money. On this team he is a starter but the goal is to build a champion and on a championship team he's a sixth man which means its salary cap suicide to overpay him.

May 22, 2009  08:39 AM ET

It will be a very tough decision but the GM has seen Gordon for so many years already and already know what he provides. I think Gordon will be doing his part to look in the open market because this is his chance for a big mula. The decision would be on the GM to match the highest offer or just let him go.

Wicked in the playoffs? People who say Ben was a stud in the playoffs only remember game two when he went off and he was reasonable in game four, but lets look at the other 5 games...

Game 1: 6-17fg; 1-5 3pt
Game 3: 5-13fg; 1-4 3pt
Game 5; 6-21fg; 3-10 3pt
Game 6: 4-14fg; 1-2 3pt
Game 7: 7-23fg; 4-12 3pt
TOTAL: 28-88 (32% fg); 10-33 (30% 3pt)

Ben had a good season shooting wise and the Bulls are in a dliema- do you sign him because you need a scorer (although Salmons will help with this issue next season) or do you let him go and strt Hinrich at the two or move Salmons to the two and start Deng if he can ever get healthy. Ohhh the drama : )

Refer to my earlier post. No big "mula" for BG

I got no problem with the Bulls re-signing him. My problem would be the Bulls paying an extreme amount of money for a 6th man.

nothing more needs to be said

"In the conversations that we've had, I think Ben wants to stay in Chicago and be with the Bulls."--Ben is looking for a payday, PERIOD. If he wanted to stay in Chicago, he wouldn't have turned away from $50 million. He considers himself a hired gun, and will sell his services to the highest bidder.

The new GM had better hurry up, because this guy will be in demand. For the past two years Gordan have been trying to get a new contract in Chicago but to no avail, now he's in the driving seat and I'm sure he will get what he wants this time.

not sure if you've actually been following the situation
but you're totally off-base....
- the bulls OFFERED a NICE deal to him- HE refused
- they have been trying to move him for a year- NO TAKERS

He isn't in the drivers seat at all- everyone knows who/what he is
a real good scorer- thats too small to be a true franchise caliber
player & HE doesn't understand/accept that.
- no team is offering him max $$-

May 22, 2009  12:20 PM ET

Everyone's blinded by BG's shooting numbers but the simple truth is that he's a tweener who can't check either guard position. Sign & trade him now while his value's high.

May 22, 2009  12:41 PM ET

As largely stated, it doesn't make sense for Chicago to offer Gordon the money the market might offer. Chicago has their PG of the future and Hinrich / Salmons are serviceable at the 2 spot depending upon a need for defense or offense. Ben has always wanted to be a starter but doesn't have a complete enough game to play solid at the PG position or the shooting guard position. He should accept coming off from the bench as a scorer. That plays to his strengths.

No one is giving him a max deal- so there is no reason for a
sign & trade- at BEST he'd get 8-10 mil (UNLIKELY)
so why would they need a S&T ?

salmons is better than servicable-
Hinrich is the problem- BAD/BIG contract
- he needs to be moved- but it'll be tough-

Not sure you actually have been following the situation. What the Bulls management offered was below what he wanted and expected, and the reason he was not traded was because the Bulls wanted to much in return. Why work for pennies when everyone else is making millions (Hinrich and Deng). Reguardless if he's a short person, he along with Rose was the most productive players for Chicago during the playoffs versus Boston. It was his clutch shooting that kept the Bulls in games and gave them their best chance of winning. If you don't believe he won't get max or near max dollars this off season; think again. He demonstrated his worth during the playoffs, and everyone knows that the playoffs are the time when players are either made or not made, he stepped up and a lot of teams took notice. So, like I said "if Chicago don't come correct with a legimate offer this off season, Gordon will walk." He unrestricted this time around, not restricted.

Just curious why you think Hinrich is "the problem."

Heinrich is the most moveable piece on the bulls roster. A combo guard that can guard 1/2/3 positions. He can handle the ball, and he can score a lil bit as well. Easily the bulls best individual perimeter defender. His contract is front-loaded so he is making less than 10 million for the last couple years of it. So like you said to someone, "not sure if you've actually been following the situation but you're totally off-base"
